11. "Blue Sky" by Allman Brothers Band

I felt kind of bad picking a song that Gregg Allman doesn't sing lead vocals on, but I've just always loved this song. Dickey Betts had a great voice of his own, and the dual-guitar harmony he and Duane Allman create on this song has rarely ever been matched again. Put this on for a good time.

One of the all time great laid back gems right there.

16. & 17. "Xtal" & "Windowlicker" by Aphex Twin

Should really need no explanation. I know that there are a lot of choices that could have been made here, but I feel these two have it covered. Both are revolutionary in their own ways, and they will only continue to get better with age. Richard D. James is a certified genius.

Of course, the "Windowlicker" video is legendary.

18. "Wake Up"- Arcade Fire

I don't like this song, but I think that other people do.

19. "Respect" Aretha Franklin

This was the #1 song on the Rolling Stone list. Very cool. I like Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin too.

20. "Rae"- Autechre

Don't ask me how I decided on this particular track for my Autechre selection. Just be happy that they're on the list at all. A dozen different things might have worked as well, but I think this song showcases all of Autechre's prowess while remaining slimly accessible to the general listening audience.

21. "Since I Left You" by The Avalanches

OK, last few have been terse, but I'll go in to talk about one of the best tracks from one of the best albums ever made. A completely blissful, bright, and inviting track that can make even the most morose of individuals tap their foot. Understanding the construction of the album and this track makes it an even more impressive feat, as it is made from dozens of samples like the rest of "Since I Left You" is. I love everything about this album, and I love everything about this track. Quilting is a strong American tradition. Many of the people in my family made quilts. The tracks on this album are all musical quilts, and they feel as warm and comforting as the real thing.

22. "212" by Azealia Banks

Although her name may be a punchline at this point, this song is so aggressive and hard-hitting that it doesn't matter whatever she does for the rest of her life. At least she made this masterpiece.

23. "Banned In D.C." by Bad Brains

The only hardcore punk bands I would consider for a list like this would be Black Flag, Minor Threat (Fugazi), and Bad Brains. (Although a few others may join.) This live footage of the song ought to explain why it belongs here.

24. "The Weight" by The Band

Ah shit, when a perfect song comes along, most people understand that fact. This is a perfect song. Thanks Levon, Robbie, Richard, Garth, and Rick.

25. Phylyps Trak by Basic Channel

Forget that you're just some amalgamation of meat, water, and synapses for 9 minutes and just bliss out.
