granted, on the surface, it might all sound the same, but the ones in your list that i'm familiar with are pretty distinct, and there are enough artists exploited the terms that i think they're valid and helpful. |
Agreed. Yeah, some of the names are stupid, but I think for all the people who complain about too many subgenres, just ignore them. Nobody's forcing you to label American Football as "emo-math-post-rock" in your iTunes library. But for me, while I don't go around saying I listen to IDM (probably the most pretentious of subgenre names), it just helps me categorize bands and artists. If I see some album just labeled as "alternative" on Wikipedia, that doesn't really help me in figuring out what it sounds like. But if I see "post-grunge, nu metal" then I know I probably won't want to check it out. |
Lol post-grunge is literally the worst, almost like a codename for "shit music" _________________ All time

Witch house, vapor wave, and math rock are the ones that irritate me the most. But nothing will ever get to me as much as the term "World Music".

Don't even get me started on the "World Music" Pandora channel. Never plays what I want it to.

Now c'mon, there are 5,000 genres which qualify as that.
I looked up 'Post-Grunge' and there are some decidedly not 'post' grunge bands on there, IIRC Nirvana was wholly grunge.

Ah post grunge. The genre that clogged the radio in the 2000's and made me not give a fathom of shit. As well as ruining my perception of rock music. Thank you post grunge.

"Bro-country" makes me snicker in its ridiculousness. I suppose it's accurate, but it certainly confines the subgenera's definition to such a specific stereotype, as opposed to simply highlighting the movement's more liberal scope of sonic influences compared to traditional country music.
