This seems like such an easy thing to do until you actually think about it. Then it gets really difficult. My ten favorite artists today aren't the same ones they were say 10 years ago. 10 years ago it would have been mostly rock artists, but I pretty much stopped listening to rock. So for this list I'm just going to combine the artists I liked in the past with the artists I like now.

The Orb, Orblivion, Plateau*
The Beatles, Abbey Road, Paperback Writer*
Chemical Brothers, Come with Us, The Private Psychedelic Reel*
Aphex Twin, Richard D. James Album, Flim*
Orbital, Middle of Nowhere, Spare Parts Express
David Bowie, Low, Speed of Life
Joni Mitchell, Hissing of Summer Lawns, Free Man in Paris*
Tangerine Dream, Rubycon, No Man's Land*
Carole King, Writer, Brother Brother*
LTJ Bukem, Logical Progression, Music
Creedence Clearwater Revival, Green River, Don't Look Now*

This was incredibly difficult. It's so hard to choose between artists that have inconsistent discographies but very high peaks and artists whose peaks might not be so high but have consistent discographies.

Note: For my #10 "Overall", it was a toss up between Schnittke, Messaien, Haydn, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and Bartok. I went with Schnittke, but can't say for sure I'd rank him above those others. Also, both Mingus and Coltrane might deserve that spot.
