So this is something I was obsessed with about 4 years ago; basically we all know how important the ordering of tracks is on an album and which ones are excluded and included but obviously there is also about 100 different ways of doing it and the artist has to settle on one. So what I used to do is reorder the album and try and make it into a cohesive album with a new opening and closing track.
So I'm not sure whether this would count as a game, because really it's just for funsies, but in my book you can do whatever to the album; minus tracks, add tracks (as long as they're from the same sessions as the album, like a bonus track or a b-side that was omitted), change a double album to a singl, re-title if it takes your fancy and obviously re-order.
I got reminded of this yesterday when i was listening to R.E.M.'s "Out Of Time" and I couldn't help but think that it could have possibly been a better album with different ordering (mostly because I think Radio Song is a bit of a duffer) so here's my version:
R.E.M. Out Of Time
1. Belong
2. Me In Honey
3. Shiny Happy People
4. Country Feedback
5. Radio Song
6. Low
7. Texarkana
8. Half A World Away
9. Losing My Religion
10. Endgame
11. Near Wild Heaven

You know I was once going to make a thread where I would ask how much the song order can effect an album. I was going to propose that if an artist would have done a different track list for some albums, they would have ended up on a different posistion of the overall chart. I'm not saying it will change drastically (Like The Bends getting higher than Ok Computer) but if we were able to see the "what ifs" I reckon a few albums would throw up some big surprises and make jumps or falls by more than 100 places.
I'll post some of my own soon.
