I don't know anything about that song's reception, though your positive comment in this thread implies general negativity here, which makes sense as it is incredibly bland. Nonetheless, it was kind of a staple of my childhood and it is pleasant enough, so I'll agree with what I guess is your unpopular opinion. Doesn't mean I think it's really any good, but I think it can be nice to listen to at times.

I mean if you go on RateYourMusic (https://rateyourmusic.com/release/single/plain-white-ts/hey-there-delilah/) you can see the reception clearly enough. AlRog's the only person I agree with. I, 100%, see your point in it being incredibly bland, but sometimes I don't care. In between the madness of my mind, I tend to be moved more by bland folk-pop songs than the popular deeper rock classics - if that makes sense.
