I used to agree on the greatest hits argument, but there are definitely artists where I like some of the songs but don't enjoy full albums. The best example for me is The Police. I wouldn't ever listen to any of their albums in one sitting because there's too many low points. However, their Greatest Hits is filled with great songs. Basically my options are to listen to their greatest hits album, or never listen to them. Which do you think the band would prefer I do?
I guess streaming has made it easier to just listen to individual tracks, but listening to your favorite songs is basically like listening to a greatest hits album. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.

I think it's okay to not be well rounded in music. Being an expert in one movement or genre is completely okay and it doesn't mean your input is any less valuable. People have preferences and should be encouraged to obsess over them. If everyone has the same surface level understanding of music, the conversation can get boring.

Yes, Police have amazing singles and mediocre albums.
I even think Sting's solo albums are way better than The Police's, probably because he's not a prolific writer and needed more time between releases. _________________ https://albumreviews.blog

Just randomly reading through this thread and saw this...have you heard his late piano works, Op. 116-119? They are generally considered to be among his greatest works, and many of them are under 4 minutes. The Hungarian Dances and Waltzes are good fun, but these late works are incredibly introspective, personal, and profound. His Op. 76 pieces are quite good too.
In my view, part of what makes Brahms one of the very greatest is that he did almost everything extremely well.

If I have heard them, I don't really recall them. Sounds like I need to give the a(nother) go. Thanks for the rec. I'll be sure to give them s listen during a quiet time so I can give them my full attention.

The Beatles Help! is one of their weakest albums. I love it but i love Beatles For Sale and A Hard Days Night Way more
I can't get into The Allman Brothers Band.
Herman's Hermits have a bigger influence than people give them credit for. (They were a big influence on Joey Ramone and he even used a line from them in Judy Is A Punk on the first album. Which kicked off a big revolution) _________________ "I Wanna Take You To A Wasteland I Like To Call My Home"
