I have a hard time getting through the first four tracks. They're not good. |
this is the bizarre thing about radiohead. what one person thinks are the highlights, another finds middling. |
Spot on. One of the reasons they are so good.

This site is far too biased toward alternative/indie and needs a massive influx of prog/metal/fusion fans to help balance things out. Though I guess that's not too controversial; it's just how it is.
And yes, I think Radiohead is mediocre. I do like Kid A and Pyramid Song I guess.
I did discover great bands like Joy Division and The Smiths thanks to this site. Post-punk/80s alternative was dark and fresh.

Your first two sentences... 100% and then some.

that's a pretty incomplete list tho. country, classical, hip hop, pop from all over (indian pop seems much more popular in the world than this site would suggest) and many other things are underrepresented compared to how much they are appreciated out in the wild.
charts calculated based on people participating in recreational data entry are just going to have a demographic bias.

That doesn't mean country is underrated here... but rather that its overrated out there!

I've always wondered what I'd consider as "underrated" here... is it albums outside of the top 1000? 5000? Not enough talk on the forums?

Uh,,, No, that's definitely not the answer. _________________ It's easier to say "I love you," than "Yours, sincerely," I suppose

It's not a raw position, but rather the position relative to where you think it should be.
Moving Pictures could be the number 2 all time album overall, and I'd still think I was underrated.
Meanwhile, Velvet Underground and Nico could fall to #89,342 and I'd still think it was overrated.

Prog rules. There can never be too much, especially if its displacing some indie, grunge, and especially hip hop.
But I'm going to agree with you. There's an excellent prog-specific web site with all the prog content one could hope for and multiple sub forums where I can share with and learn from people who thoroughly know and love the genre. I like that I can expand my horizons on BEA.
