Shocked Really? Sugarhill gang?

Yes, yes, don't let it shock you. He opened so many doors and I like the feeling in his rap. If I want the technique, I'd listen to Freestyle Fellowship.

Damn, how'd I forget about Gab.. Saw him live recently, was insane to say the least.
Dope to see Busdriver make it on to your list too, seems like you've got a pretty good taste in Hip Hop.

Thanks man, that is awesome that you got to see Gift of Gab, he's basically a walking dictionary.

BTW, you might know this if you're an Eminem fan, but his birthplace is about an hour from where I live, in St. Joseph, Missouri. My brother used to work there, so I'm very familiar with the town. It's a shit place full of poverty, bad education, and rural inbred angry people. In other words, it makes complete sense for it to be one of Eminem's developmental environments. It shaped him into being a great socially aware rapper.

Fair enough yeah. I'd check their backstory if you don't already know it. They certainly were a first for many people the world over. But they were lucky to say the least. Rappers delight is full of other peoples rhymes (the original guys) that they heard on the popular tapes doing the rounds. Big bad hank even had the audacity to spell out Casanova fly in one line of the track. Still love a bit sugarhill for sure but for a bit more authenticity check out the live convention records from late 70s early 80s. If you don't know them that is.

Saw blackalicious on the last album tour. He's an impressive guy! Always thought it a shame that the whole solesides/quannum collective didn't do further stuff together.
