Love this album! It's really close between this and Superunknown for me. This one is the height of their Sabbath-y heaviness, and its incredible. The production, Cornell's vocals, Thayil's Eastern-influenced guitar playing - it all combines to create a somewhat overlooked masterpiece from the best band of the '90's grunge scene. What a talent Chris Cornell was!

How is this record not in the top 500? Jesus Christ, the first 4 songs are flawless. So many other great tunes here too.

Excellent album. It's most well-known for "Rusty Cage", "Outshined", and the controversial "Jesus Christ Pose", but the rest of the album is amazing as well, especially "Slaves & Bulldozers", "Room A Thousand Years Wide", "Mind Riot", "Holy Water", and "New Damage". Speaking of "Rusty Cage", you knew you were doing something right when Johnny Cage wanted to cover your song. It's too bad that this album was so overlooked by the other 2 big grunge releases of 1991: Nevermind and Ten.

By far, my favorite Soundgarden album. Great from end to end. Rusty Cage really kicks things off with both power an momentum, and the album never really lets up. Outshined was rightfully a big radio hit in my neck of the woods and remains a signature track, but my personal fave was always the ultra biting Jesus Christ Pose.

Applause Totally agree with all the above. I don't really listen to heavy rock music these days, but if I did it would be stuff like this. I used to love this album back in the day and when I revisited it a short while ago I was blown away by how good it still sounds. I mean, I think the songwriting on Superunknown is probably better but this is a heavier and more intense album so I can see why some people prefer it.

This album gets monotonous, which is why I prefer Superunknown and Down on the Upside. Although I prefer Down on the Upside by just a smidge. Still, Badmotorfinger is great. Tracks 3 and 4...do they get any better?
