Finally got around to the new Sons Of Kemet record over the course of the past few days. If it fell through the cracks for you, I recommend giving it a listen. Really cool!

Your Queen Is A Reptile by Sons Of Kemet

Love this album art as well.

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

A few 2018 albums that I've heard recently and strongly recommend:

One Eye Sees Red by Lonker See

I'm not even sure how to fully describe this. I guess psychedelic jazz? I read one reviewer describe it as the aural equivalent of the boiling frogs story, and I think that's the best way to describe it. It starts off a bit more subtle and before you know it fully envelops you. It's great.

The Wizard by Merlin (US)

Really good quality stoner metal. It can be a bit by the numbers, but man do I love it. If you liked the new Sleep record, check this out.

Diminution by Leila Abdul-Rauf

Beautiful ambient music from a woman who's in two different metal bands right now. Seriously well-crafted soundscapes full of brass, piano, a few vocals here and there, and more. It's really well done.

The Projector by Simone Felice

I've always felt like Simone Felice doesn't get the respect he deserves. This album is some of his finest songwriting, if you dig simple, well-written folk music, this is for you.

Techno producer John Tejada and Comedian (but also good musician) Reggie Watts have made a collaborative album. Some songs have retained a bit of a goofy an fun quality like Get Down With Ya Bad Self, but there are also some legitimate Detroit era techno tracks and some real good tunes.

Here they are on Conan

7 by Beach House

Will possibly be my AOTY in the end, will almost certainly be in my top 3 or 4. Beach House has been one of the most consistently great bands of my generation.

What an insanely strong year for house music so far. Seriously. And I haven't even given the new Hopkins record a spin yet.

Thanks for the rec, digging it. Also, yeah, that Lonker See album is one of the best of the year for sure.

Eyes Of A Key by Mix-O-Rap

so this is an absolutely bizarre piece or post-lofihouse-gogo-ghettotech-experimental hip hop rapped through a megaphone nonsense and is honestly a borderline masterpiece and an early contender for AOTY

Part Of The Light by Ray LaMontagne

A comfortable amalgamation of the directions he’s taken on previous albums. “Such a Simple Thing” is as good as anything on his earlier albums. He breaks out the fuzz from time to time, reminiscent of the last album. I can hear a bit of a George Harrison thing going on at times. Worth a listen.

Vortex by Toundra

So if you dig post-metal, this album is a must-listen. I loved it, one of the best metal albums I've heard all year.

Can't believe so few people have charted some of my favorites from the year...

Dungeness by Trembling Bells

Fairport Convention meets Jefferson Airplane heavy folk murder ballads.

In Transit by The Amazing

Swedish Dungen side project goes Slowdive meets Red House Painters

Onion by Shannon And The Clams

Super fun fuzzed out retro 60s garage rock

The Straight Hits! by Josh T. Pearson

Ex-Lift to Experience frontman finds balance between big his post-rock band and depressing folk solo project.

YRU Still Here? by Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog

Masterful avant-jazz trio plays inspired political post-punk
