Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves
Kacey Musgraves strikes again, such a beautiful record. Probably her best yet. Everybody should listen to it, whether you like country music or not (I typically don't).

Lonely Weekend got me like
all week
Also new Jean Grae and Quelle Chris pretty much as exceptional as I would have hoped. No idea why I slept on it until now.
2018 finally getting good.

I think I said it before: it's like the nineties are back.
Both guitar bands from the nineties and bands who get their inspiration of nineties guitar music are popping up like mushrooms in a musty wood.
So here's another band from the nineties issuing a great album:
12 by Sloan
Indeed their 12th album already and this is a good one: maybe not completely as good as Smeared or Twice Remove but they still have that great sound which also reminds me of the Posies. If you only want to listen to one or two tracks, listen to The Day Will Be Mine or the opening track.
And there's a band who gets its inspiration from the nineties guitar bands (although maybe more in the sense of Dinosaur Jr in its fiercest form or Superchunk). And it's a Belgian band and I don't want to be nationalistic but just listen to the following album on its own merits: the first tracks are the best:
Birthmarks by Teen Creeps
I'm also listening to the new Eels and I'm not sure yet if I find this a good album: think I'll have to need a second session.

Debut album by all girl post punk band from south London. Paid their dues and got their just reward. Great album with some cracking tracks. Check ‘em out.

I second the Goat Girl recommendation. Strong start and finish to the album, and the run of tracks 6 to 10 is excellent! The whole album flows really well. I am sure I will be playing this album quite a bit in 2018.

Paul de Jong (of "The Books" fame) has come through with a stellar release. If you're a fan of The Books, then you should definitely check it out.

I had high hopes for this LP based on the above and excitedly tracked down a copy to listen to. Totally disappointed. It’s all over the fucking shop, with pointless interludes, sub-par Fall stompers and Angel Olsen cast-offs amidst (admittedly) a couple of decent tracks. Luckily I’ve found a Gallic antidote:
