Recently there was a poll on Sgt. Pepper vs Pet Sounds... I think this might be apt. Maybe it should be Sgt. Pepper's vs PSR&T, but somehow thought this might be more fitting.

Musically I feel these two records are kind of more on the same planet at least, both having heavy influence of pop music, mixed in with much more serious artistic endeavors (modal music: title song PSR&T vs Eleanor Rigby), in tune with surrealism or beat poetry/other important art movements of the time). It seemed to be the beginning of such in popular music.

And they were only released months apart. Pet Sounds was released months before this (not including to not muddy the waters)... but I can't help to think if Brian Wilson said Pet Sounds was to compete with Rubber Soul, these two albums greatly were influenced by and had some kind of Synergy from Pet Sounds; had some kind of web of influence with each other. And to think it was London vs New York vs LA almost, even if not on purpose.

Revolver by The Beatles

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme by Si... Garfunkel

I think it was harsh that some critics saw Simon and Garfunkle as a poor man's Dylan. They had a bunch of really great songs. That said, this contest seems a bit David and Golieth Smile

Do you think this is Simon and Garfunkle's best album? I only heard it once and can't remember too much about it. I wasn't such a fan of the Sound of Silence, but I really like the other two.

Edit: they have three other albums besides those two. Was forgetting the debut.

Neither are my favourites from respective bands, but both are fantastic albums. I've always loved "For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her", I think it's my favourite among the songs on the two albums. Revolver will surely win because it's more of a popularity contest now, but the quality of both is equally extraordinary imo. I'l have to go with PSR&T to balance the votes Smile Smile

I love both. Revolver smashes it though.

Sounds of Silence is S&G's masterpiece.

Much as I love S&G's album, a collection of gems from beginning to end, this is a no brainer if I ever saw one: "Revolver", by some intergalactic distance.

Probably wouldn't be as much of a landslide if instead of PSR&T it was Bookends or Bridge Over Troubled Water. Beatles would obviously still win, but S&G would probably get a few more votes.

Both are in my Top 25. Two outstanding albums. A very close call. However, Revolver has And Your Bird Can Sing, a horrible song that single-handedly brings that album down a smidge...giving the win to PSR&T.

I've always loved that song. So much energy and great guitar playing from George.
