Inspired by SethMadsen's post on PSR&T vs Revolver, there was some debate in the comments about whether PSR&T is S&G's best album, so I figured why not bring it to a poll.

It was between Bookends and Parsley Sage, but I picked Bookends. But only because I had to choose one. Actually the best way to listen to them is Greatest Hits. That way you don't have to choose between Scarborough Fair, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Mrs. Robinson, I Am a Rock, Sounds of Silence and America. They're just all in the same place. And they sound really good all in a row like that.

When I was younger, I used to listen to Bookends back to back for hours on end. It's a bit of an odd listen at first (voices of old people etc), but it's a real grower. My favourite track on the album is Old Friends, but it also contains some of Simon & Garfunkel's well-known work. BOTW is a great listen as well, but for me it's not as cohesive as an album as Bookends.

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

I went back and forth between BOTW and PSR&T, but I think I have to go with the latter.

Their arrangement of Scarborough Fair is beautiful, you've also got Homeward Bound which is just an incredibly-written and beautifully sad song, Dangling Conversation, For Emily, all kinds of great stuff.

BOTW for me but I really like Bookends too. BOTW has "The only living boy in New York on it", which I think is their most beautiful song. I feel like its probably their warmest and most fun album, but also poignant as well. It's full of ear-worms.

We should talk more about Paul Simon solo as well. What a songwriter. I don't know his 70s work but plan to. Graceland, Rhythm of Saints and Stranger to Stranger I really like.

I'll grant that BOTW has the best standout tracks, namely the title track and The Boxer. However it trails off at the end. The last three tracks are forgettable. PSR&T has no dull moments. Some songs are better than others, but its best tracks can compete with the best tracks from any other S&G albums. At worst, there are a couple songs I may not be in the mood for when they come on, but I wouldn't call them filler. I picked it against Revolver, and I picked it again here.

But hey, we're talking one of my top 5 artists of all-time. I love four of their albums. The only one I don't love is Wednesday Morning 3AM. That album will get 0 votes in this poll (unless someone picks it out of spite, haha).

Yes that was my issue with BOTW always. However, the good songs are so god damn good that it still has a place in my top 50. The Boxer is probably among my 10 favourite songs of all time.
