Since your list is so broad I want to ask about a couple that I see are absent.

No 80's heavy hitters like Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, Talk Talk. The Blue Nile, Japan?

Does any Of Montreal album catch your ear?

What about singer/songwriters like EELS or Sparklehorse?

Also, I don't know if you want recs or not, but this has gotten me thinking about what artists I might qualify for this type of thing.

Have you ever listened to Beulah? They're kind of the bastards of the Elephant 6 label, but I think they deserve better.

The Coast Is Never Clear by Beulah

Sam Prekop's self-titled (and The Sea and Cake self-titled) might be on the cusp of what I'd put on a pop chart.

Thank you! It is no doubt a varied list (as per the note at the top).

Re: 80s... Tears for Fears probably don't have any 7/10s by my estimation (except maybe Seeds of Love, Hurting?). Same with Depeche Mode ... Talk Talk has a shot (perhaps Colour of Spring, which fell just short by my last estimation... "6.7/10"). Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock are 8/10s (but obviously not even close to pop).

I've never heard a full album by Blue Nile, but I will look into them. And I'm not sure if I've heard Japan before at all -- will check them out. Same with Sam Prekop.

Of Montreal are fine, but no albums that I know of that deserve 7/10+.

For singer/songwriter albums, go here: https://www.besteveralbums.com/phpBB2/v...hp?t=19838

Sparkelhorse's "It's a Wonderful Life" should probably be added. Eels "Beautiful Freak" as well...

Understandable.

You ever listen to David Sylvian? That would be the mastermind behind Japan. Anyways, there best known album is...

Tin Drum by Japan

Which has one of the weirdest top 5 hits in UK chart history, Ghosts.

Hey Babe by Juliana Hatfield counts as pop surely? And some of the less experimental Lida Husik stuff (Bozo perhaps) would fit in nicely!

Yeah I'm pretty sure I recommended Hey Babe to him on Listology, I think it did get a rating in the 7/10 range.

Thanks for the reminder, Hatfield now added. For now I've added Husik to the "Singer-Songwriter" list: www.besteveralbums.com/phpBB2/viewtopic...202#504202

Both Hatfield and Husik need revisits. Ratings for these two (and various others) are kind of old and may no longer hold up. Husik may qualify for the pop list but I'll need to revisit her first.

No on Smiley Smile, but is The Smile Sessions an official album? I know Ive heard it once before, a few years back, but I feel like I may be mixing it (or some of it) up with the proper Smile album. So I'll look into that one.
