Three Imaginary Boys - The Cure (young Robert Smith, even uses a distortion pedal)
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (debut without Dickinson - surprisingly good) |
Pretty big fan of both bands, but since you probably know them as well I won't talk about Wish, Bloodflowers; Killers and basically all the new Maiden stuff that some people don't like for reasons unknown.
And I won't bombard you with all the 3500 worthy examples.
Instead I'll simply say The Cult - Dreamtime. You may like this one very much, fits all the criteria. Also Love and Sonic Temple, another two of their masterpieces. A really underappreciated band. _________________ Finally updated the overall chart

And amen to that. British Steel, Defenders of the Faith and especially Screaming for Vengeance are great but the best two must be Sad Wings and Stained Class. _________________ Finally updated the overall chart

Viet Cong by Viet Cong. Many people are yet to discover how good this album is. I can’t wait to hear their next one!

It's funny because when I was originally making this list real quick, I was deciding between Wish and Killers instead of the albums I chose. Truly great indeed. I haven't listened to any Maiden post Seventh Son though, so maybe I'll give it a listen. And I'll definitely be giving The Cult a spin, Thanks! _________________ Jeff Lynne 5th Beatle

How would you describe their music/album? Who were they influenced by? Who are they similar to? _________________ Jeff Lynne 5th Beatle

Hi elo269megv,
Very good questions. I am not good with the labels and it is unlike anything else in my collection. I first saw the band live (opening for Metric-which is a bit weird) and they blew me away. They are like a sonic explosion in my head with driving drums and droning vocals. Distopic! Apparently Wikipedia describes it as post-punk! I also learned that the band has changed its name to Preoccupations. And they have released another album which answers one of my own questions.
Thanks for the questions. As a newbie, I tend to think you are all way more, informed than I am. This is certainly true, but I need to be more detailed.

I am listening to Viet Cong at this moment and loving it. Comments on this album are surprisingly mixed. This may be my first excursion in to this genre of music (post punk) so what are some examples of stand out post punk bands and albums.

Fresh Cream by Cream. Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire are both fine albums, but their debut is their most consistent and strong set of songs, yet somehow it's their most overlooked on this site.
Edit: If you do check out this album, I'd recommend trying to find the mono version, it's much better than the stereo

Ok if we are going for underrated, I would choose this.
A beautiful electronic record that dabbles in Uk garage, deep house, and down-tempo with pop, R&B/soul and jazz vocals. For anyone curious since I am going through 2015's records this is my Number 1. I have put almost 1000 listens since it has been released. And it never loses its luster. Also I do mention that the tracks Molecules, Moving Mountains and Afterthought are necessary for the experience. The only complaint since this site only includes the 11 track version.
P.S Everyone is sleeping on the record and for the people that didn't like it, listen to it again.
