I think that, in the style of the new "album of the day" feature, a "chart of the day" would be a really cool feature. That way, for one day everyone could give their opinions on one particular chart. It could also give exposure to charts that might not otherwise get it. There could be some criteria to be chosen- a minimum number of charts, for example. Just a thought... love the site

yes, I like the idea in principal as well. Just wondering how the selection criteria would work. Maybe a chart with a minimum size of 50(?) entries, having a minimum number of 10(?) ratings etc, updated within the last 28(?) days, and only including charts that allow member feedback. (The 28 days might need to be increased a bit to allow more variety depending on how many charts are updated during that period.)

I feel like it should be charts updated in the past six months, with a minimum number of entries being 50, with charts in increments of 5 (so the charts demonstrate some form of completed organization, as opposed to a chart of 7 , with a minimum of 10 user ratings, and with charts that allow member feedback. The increments of 5 thing is controversial, but I believe the human mind works in increments of mostly 5 and 10, so increments of 5 or 10 will distinguish the more organized charts that are near to completion.

I like this idea best. A random chart, BUT it must have a minimum of 50 entries, allow member feedback, and be updated within the last month.
The minimum ratings thing I'm not sure about - what about those charts that never got rated?

Just to be clear charts *will* be chosen randomly, but need to be randomly selected from a subset of charts that are worthy of being highlighted. So these criteria will determine which charts are able to be selected from. I agree with purple that a chart of the 'best 63 albums' looks worse than top 60 or 80 etc. It just doesn't sound right.
We also don't want to highlight a freshly created chart in case it contains rubbish. I think the charts need to be vetted before they can appear as a 'chart of the day', and the best way to do that is though using a member rating. If a chart has 10 ratings and say an average of over 70%(?), then it becomes eligible. If the criteria are too tight, the same charts will be be shown the whole time and this is a concern too (as only a few charts will meet the criteria).

as far as updating, I feel that it should simply be updated every three months, or even six. There are several great charts from several active users that aren't updated every month
|

I agree, assuming a chart already has the greatest albums, it is doubtful that they would need updating every 28 days, perhaps 6 months or a year would be adequate. Of course if the chart was listing current favorites, it might need updating every day!

- 10 or more ratings
- Chart size of 50 or more
- Chart size divisible by ten
- Average rating of at least 75
- Charts can't contain more than six albums by the same band (no fanboy charts)
