I added a section just below the main list for "Other User's Selections & Suggestions". For those from this section that I end up using for the main list, I will transfer them onto it. But even if another user's suggestion(s) are not added to the main list (for instance, if I dont agree or if it just doesnt rate high enough on the "equivalence rating") they will still remain acknowledged in this sub-section. Exceptions may be made for selections/suggestions that arent meant seriously or as a joke, etc. Also, if you as the user changes your mind about one or want to replace one with a different selection, just let me know and Ill edit.

Not to mention those listed in this "Other User's" section make up an alternate perspective that you may find worth considering.

Several additions throughout (marked by ">>>" to the left of the new entry). Ive started adding entries to the "7.5/10" section as well (just those that immediately came to mind so far).

Right on thank you, Ill add them to the Other Users section soon. I must admit that I cant really make heads or tails of these selections, as the correlations seem pretty vague to me (but maybe its just me?) Are you trying to align with the "equivalence ratings" closely (or at least "10/15") for these (see below) or are you going by another criteria?

(1) The first number is scored by how closely the album corresponds to the film in relation to EMOTIONAL/CONCEPTUAL CONTENT, with a 5 being as close as one can reasonably expect.

(2) The second number is scored by how closely the album corresponds to the film in relation to PACING, RHYTHM, MOMENTUM AND STRUCTURAL ARC, with a 5 being as close as one can reasonably expect.

(3) The third number is scored by how closely the album corresponds to the film in relation to OVERALL QUALITY/RATING, with a 5 being within 0.2 of the same rating (when comparing between my "Greatest Films" and "Greatest Albums" lists that feature more precise ratings). For every 0.3 in rating differential between the two, the score is dropped by 0.5 (from a possible 5 out of 5).


(as a note: its more "1" and "2" that I'm asking about. I dont expect other users to make much effort to align the selections with mine ratings-wise)

I revised the section above the list that describes its purpose and the "equivalence ratings". Should be clearer now. If any further explanation needed -- no worries -- just let me know.

I just used the criteria of the feelings in my heart. I doubt you're going to get any contributions following your equivalence ratings, since you've clearly got a system that's very personal to you and the way you process art.

That said, the constantly evolving rhythms in Music For 18 Musicians phasing in and out of time with each other mirror Kaufman's incessant revising of his screenplay, as well as The Orchid Thief's central themes of dissatisfaction and constant evolution. The structure of the movie is actually (with a helping of intentional irony) quite traditional, but using a traditionally structured album to represent it would be a disservice I feel.

The other two were primarily about the emotions they elicit, but the lyrical content also contributed, respectively:

Okay, that makes more sense now that I know youre not thinking with the posted criteria in a more detailed or thorough sense.
The entries that will make this list share a more consistent and thorough similarity "score" from start to finish...

In regards to contribution... Always preferred of course, but the selections are going to expand regardless. And it defeats the purpose and discipline of this list to make the requirements too loose so I'm not going to be doing that.

I have already run iterations of this list on past sites (going back years) and with friends/associates so lots of contribution has thus far occurred to help produce what is already here. For instance, Scaruffi recommended Sunrise as perhaps the closest parallel to Rock Bottom in content and structure ... and I believe I discussed Irrlicht / 2001 as my original query/discussion with him on the matter
.. a user named Parable made several previous contributions ... Facetious too ... a user named Elston ... Marquee ... seanseansean ...
joannajewsom, I think? (etc).

Naturally, one's degree of contribution (provided he/she is interested in the first place) most likely depends on the degree of familiarity one has, more than any other factor. I dont know how many users on this site are extensively familiar with a lot of the works listed, so my expectation of contribution was "to be determined". Many of the selections would make immediate sense to someone who is quite familiar with them (both film and album). Furthermore, one is much more likely to find corresponding albums amongst similarly rated films, than otherwise. The higher the rating the more likely similarities in characteristics will be evident.

That all said, even if one is not familiar with the selections, it can be used as a guide for just that purpose, which I highly recommend.

Yes of course! Very Happy Now if only they were rated high enough Think 7.3 is the lowest a film can place to be included here, unless I expand this further which I might at a later time.

This post is actually pretty nice and helpful in terms of what mood I'm in. Let's say, if I'm listening to Blonde On Blonde, and I wanna watch something with the same conceptual, emotional or stylistic expression, then here's some examples. Oh... and some new movies to get into as well. Thanks AH!

Btw Psycho and Suicide are like a quintessential match-up.

Next up: If you haven't already, could it be possible at some point to do a Greatest Paintings - Corresponding Albums/Songs/Movies/etc.?
