I remember reading an article (perhaps about the album that followed) saying The Beta Band was possibly the sound of the 2000's. The journalist was not so affirmative. To put it pompously, rock itself seemed to hesitate (at least in music magazines).
Then came The Strokes.
The Beta Band is always one of those acts I’ve shelved for a long time. Coincidentally, I was going to run through The Regal Years: 1997-2004 boxset next week. So I expect only good things! _________________ Some RYM paraphernalia:
Yeah I remember hearing this and thinking they were the future of music. They weren't but it was still very cool. And it did give us that ultimate music-nerd supremacy bit in High Fidelity.
I think they were going for the Stone Roses as sung by a choir of medieval monks or something. It's catchy
Anyway, this is a great compilation, and amazingly consistent as well. My ranking of the EP's would be: The Patty Patty Sound (7.5/10) > Champion Versions (7+/10) > Los Amigos del Beta Bandidos (7/10).
