I'm just starting to get into Marillion and I'm really enjoying them so far.

I can't deny the Genesis vibes I'm getting from the albums I've checked out so far (Fugazi & Misplaced Childhood) but I'm ok with that!

After doing some research it looks like Marillion is divided in a similar way as Genesis was with the Gabriel / Collins eras, so I'm curious to know if both sides of Marillion are worth checking out. Lemme know which side you are on, and more importantly.. why?

Nice! I would go for Fish, and looking at the albums that top BEA I think I'm not the only one. I am not like the core fans which stopped listening to Marillion after Fish left (I wasn't born at the time anyway Razz) but I prefer his voice and find the music and lyrics of those albums more cohesive and different, even if they have some Genesis vibes. Also they were able to become a well known prog rock band in the 80's when prog was almost dead thanks to fusing a little with the general attitude and sound in that moment. However Hogarth's era shouldn't be ignored; I enjoy albums like Marbles or Sounds that can't be made even if their sound with Hogarth is more a standard pop-rock (sometimes sounding like U2) with some prog every now and then.

Voted Fish as well. My favourite album was Clutching at Straws, but not heard it in a very long time. May give it a listen again now... Idea Mr. Green

Off course: FISH!

But there are also fascinating albums from the Hogarth-Aera… I would recommend

Brave

and

F.E.A.R.

Fish, but it's still worth taking the time to check out both.

My vote goes to Hogarth. Fish and Phil Collins for me have the most annoying voices in music history .

That said, Fish solo album "Internal Exile" is better than any album he recorded with the band and "F.E.A.R" is my favorite Marillion album.
