I haven't heard anybody say that 1992 was a great year. And it's no wonder. Most years I have no trouble coming up with 50 and up albums. But for 1992 I couldn't get higher than 21. And that was with really stretching it.

Yeah, for me at least, depth is lacking. Even though this is the year of my greatest or second greatest album ever, things drop off pretty rapidly thereafter. But for me, that's also the era to some degree as things dropped off pretty hard for me throughout the 90s.

Not as exceptional a vintage as 1991, still a very solid year:

1/ Sugar : Copper Blue
2/ The Cure : Wish
3/ REM : Automatic For The People
4/ Ride : Going Blank Again
5/ XTC : Nonsuch
6/ The High Llamas : Santa Barbara (their first lp, before they went full Smile-era Beach Boys with a touch of bossa-nova)

7/ Morrissey : Your Arsenal
8/ The Boo Radleys : Everything’s Alright Forever
9/ PJ Harvey : Dry
10/ Lou Reed : Magic and Loss

Hmmm... Even die hard High Llamas fans seem lukewarm on this one. I'm listening rn & it seems okay. embryonic. What's make this so special for u?

Not my favorite year of the 90s but my top 3 are records that all really shaped me. Not really sure how strong I feel about this order of things, but it'll do.

1. Red House Painters - Down Colorful Hill
2. Faith No More - Angel Dust
3. Rocket From The Crypt - Circa: Now!
4. Tom Waits - Bone Machine
5. Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies
6. R.E.M. - Automatic For The People
7. The Jesus Lizard - Liar
8. XTC - Nonsuch
9. Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
10. Sonic Youth - Dirty
11. Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted
12. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Henry`s Dream
13. P.J. Harvey - Dry
14. James - Seven
15. Nirvana - Incesticide
16. Stereolab - Peng!
17. Moonshake - Eva Luna
18. Pulp - Separations
19. Ween - Pure Guava
20. They Might Be Giants - Apollo 18

Actually, for me it was the opposite. Rather than drop off after 92, the 90s really picked up for me about 1994. And now it's my second favorite decade. But from like 87 to 92, it was like a drought or famine or something for me. I can't even finish my charts from those years because I can't even find enough for a top 10 in many cases. And yet other people really like this period.

Yeah, the decade from '94 - '04 is kinda' my personal musical black hole. I have trouble finding music from that period that I like.

I know part of it is because I had my first child in '94 and really lost touch with music over the next decade as I had two more.

After regaining some free time, I went back and tried to catch up, but never developed a love for that period. I thought it may have been because I had gotten old and was no longer able to appreciate new music, but that's not the case as I have really come to appreciate even newer music that came after that period.

@Fischmann & BobbyB: Well it's a good thing I'm doing this project then! Wink Razz Very Happy

I'm one of those people who loves every year, and 1992 is no exception. My 1992 chart is already shaping up nicely, and I'm just getting started. I'm pretty surely I'll be madly in love with my 1992 chartsin three months time when I predict this project to be completed. Very Happy

@Fischman: loving that Drem Theater album. Even better than that Fates warning from 1991 I think. Both are good though and both will be in their respective charts. Thanks, brother!

Yeah, Parallels is another one I think is truly special from start to finish. So glad you have enjoyed!

I have found music to love in every year as well, just less in some years than others. My lists even in the 90s are fairly long.
