Absolutely wonderful music! This is where rock and roll got its start. Elvis never sounded as raw and exciting as he did in these recordings. I can't believe this one is ranked only #1,264 on this site. It should be in the top 100 of anyone that knows anything about rock and roll and its history.

Straight forward rock 'n' roll at its finest, Elvis may not have been amazing at studio albums, but compilations work great for him.

Funny... I think this is the album Rolling Stone put as the top Elvis album or something?

I still haven't heard it. Probably a combination of difficulties finding it (I think I looked for it once). But I have listened to these albums instead:

Title Band Year Year Rank Rating
Elvis Presley Elvis Presley 1956 1 90
Elvis' Golden Records Elvis Presley 1958 3 85
50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong: Elvis' Gold Records - Volume 2 Elvis Presley 1959 5 85
Elvis Gold Records Volume 3 Elvis Presley 1963 3 85
Loving You Elvis Presley 1957 16 70
LP Fans Elvis 1959 23 70
Elvis Is Back! Elvis Presley 1960 5 70
Elvis Elvis Presley 1956 18 65
From Elvis In Memphis Elvis Presley 1969 51 65
Elvis' Christmas Album Elvis Presley 1957 23 60
King Creole Elvis Presley 1958 34 55

I used to have a paper route when I was a kid (probably the last generation to have one) and this old lady gave me a tip and showed me her shrine to Elvis... she thought he didn't die and the whole bit... strange those people exist.

I'd also argue Elvis didn't start rock n' roll at all, but did make it popular.

It's probably partly due to it being a compilation. Elvis Presley (the album) is ranked 424. But, yeah, both of them aren't getting enough props because they're pre-British Invasion rock.

It is a curious thing though, right?

I mean Elvis was like God at one point and still considered great to many.

James Brown equally doesn't have very high rankings. Or Little Richard.

I'm curious if this was a rate the artists page if that'd be different.

The artists above don't have the greatest albums, even if they have some pretty good albums. They really aren't album artists, that's my guess?

I mean for me, as much as I love those artists, they didn't rank too high for me as I rated song for song their albums. I think Little Richard made it the highest.

Yeah this website and Rolling Stone have different outlooks on music. It could be due to a lack of exposure to pre-British Invasion rock, but it also might be simply because music formatting was still forming when these albums were recorded, so it's difficult to look at them as we look at most albums post 1965, when the album format started to really take a hold of the world. Back in the 50s, all albums were just compilations of songs, but when the Beatles and the Beach Boys came along and made albums in which all songs fit together coherently, it changed music forever, and this website doesn't look at anything before that like it's all that great for the most part, but Rolling Stone magazine doesn't mind making an exception for those albums.

Sorry if I rambled a bit, just my thoughts on the matter.
