To all the metalheads on BEA and those who feel that way! A very interesting age old question; Metallica or Megadeth? Or maybe SLAYEEEEEEEEEER? Or the very underrated Anthrax? Tell me what you think.

My thoughts:

4. Slayer
Like them but have never been able to like their whole albums. Which is strange, considering there are many classics from them that I enjoy, from Angel Of Death to Seasons In The Abyss. As far as metal community is concerned, they’re probably the most influential. Pivotal band in progress of more extreme metal.
Fav albums: Reign In Blood, Seasons In The Abyss, South Of Heaven

3. Anthrax
Definitely the most interesting and diverse of those 4. They had an amazing album streak in the 80s, and I love their open-minded approach and splendid musical taste. They have covered bands like The Smiths, Radiohead, Public Enemy, Rush, The White Stripes, Pink Floyd as well as metal classics like Sabbath and Maiden, all pretty well, which is extraordinary when you think about the diversity of styles. Also lyrically fantastic band.
Fav albums: Among The Living, Fistful Of Metal, Spreading The Disease

2. Metallica
It’s inconsistency. That’s why they’re second. In some parallel universe St. Anger and Death Magnetic have decent production, Hardwired doesn’t have so many songs (and they should’ve been better considering the 10 year gap) and Lulu... Well a black sheep in both Lou Reed’s and Metallica’s stellar careers, shouldn’t have happened.
Favourite albums: Ride The Lightning, ...And Justice For All, Master Of Puppets

1. Megadeth
The most consistent thrash metal band, with the best thrash song ever written in Holy Wars... The Punishment Due. Two very good reasons to be at number one. Oh yeah and technically nobody of the other three comes close, Marty, Nick Menza, Ellefson and Dave are beasts on their instruments. Although that’s not the most important aspect in music, it’s pretty cool.
Fav albums: Rust In Peace, Peace Sells... But Who’s Buying, So Far So Good... So What?

Honestly have no idea why Metallica's new album is so big, Megadeth's and Anthrax's are both better and probably Slayer's too...

I think Megadeth is the only one that was still making good records after the 90s hit. I wouldn't consider many of them in the conversation for greatest thrash metal band.

Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer all have excellent, top-tier thrash records (Anthrax is solid, though I've never been overly impressed with them).

But if we're talking some of the best thrash ever, we've gotta talk Metal Church, Testament, Coroner, Sepultura, Exodus, Artillery, probably Pantera too.

Buying that on Testament, Sepultura, and Metal Church. I've known of Metal Church for a while but last year I saw them open for Megadeth and they may have been my favorite band of the night.

I think Anthrax is the band I go back to the least out of the "Big 4", but damn Among The Living is a killer of a record.
