I don't know if we did this already but if not well spank my ass & let's get this started for the next poll. I guess for rules, there won't be many, film has to be at least 40 minutes and... yeah what the hay uncredited cameos are fine, they're often the most enjoyable part of the movie (unless it's Zoolander) BUT GIVE SPOILER WARNINGS. I'm open to negotiation for any of these. So yeah start with your lists or just ignore this P(oll) P(oll) P(otato) and let it die in the ether. But c'mon have fun.

EDIT: Oh yeah from 5 min up to 100 selections, any number but of course I prefer increments of 5 (easier to calculate)

Thought we were getting started on the film noir poll after labor day? I guess we could do both.

One thing i always had against doing this poll is whoever is doing it is gonna have a harder time than anyone ever in the history of these polls. Takes a lot of patience and attention. Its like favorite actors poll I did but with infinitely more possibilities to select from.

Take the list above for example (and this is why I personally am against "one performance per actor"). While there are a few obvious choices that will surely get more votes, only a handful of the performances there would have even been on my radar. Not that any of them are bad performances. But everyone is gonna have unique picks that cater to their taste, and going the route of picking one performance per actor could be detrimental. You see, if everyone does it that way, you're looking at James Dean and Heath Ledger outperforming Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman because there's less great performances to choose from the former two. If 10 people take part, De Niro's gonna have 2 Taxi Drivers, 2 Raging Bulls, a King of Comedy, maybe a Godfather 2 or Deer Hunter or Goodfellas or Awakenings. But Ledger's split vote between 5 Dark Knights and 3 Brokeback Mountains could put him way ahead of actors just because he was less prolific. And then actors who have a general consensus best performances like Orson Welles in Citizen Kane could wind up on double the amount of lists as any single Brando performance (though if Falconetti's Joan of Arc wins the whole thing I won't complain).

But even if most of us are willing to put our favorite actors more than once, and even if half as many people participate than usual, this is gonna be a pain in the ass to add up. Better you than me.

Yeah, I was planning to start the film noir poll next Wednesday. But it's not like we've had a stampede of people wanting to host polls, so I guess I'll push mine back. Not sure how long -- lemme think on that and see how this goes.

Does seem like there will be more discrete performances than films in most polls, so it may be quite a bit harder than usual to tally.

Slightly off-topic: What's the film poll that had the most unique (as in individual) films submitted? Directed at Hayden or anyone who has some knowledge of submissions.

I imagine Brando in Streetcar will do fine on its own.

Yeah, good luck tallying this list. Props to you for taking on the task.

I have a draft of 72 performances that I've worked on before, but it's definitely in the rough stages after about 30. I'll get it to at least 75 and possibly 100 before I post it. And there are definitely actors appearing more than once. I assume the final result after the entries have been tallied would look something like:
1. Robert De Niro - Taxi Driver
2. Marlon Brando - On The Waterfront
...but wouldn't prevent De Niro or Brando (just as an example since others have named them already), or anyone, from appearing a couple more times in the final list?

This is gonna be tough, but I will submit a list at some point. It's not only gonna tough making a list, but it could be tough compiling it. There are so many possibilities. For example, we all love Tom Hanks (at least I hope we do). But suppose we all select different Tom Hanks performances? The result could be none of them make it. I already see several actors/actresses on bobbyb5's and Stover75's lists that I would represent...but not with the same performance they list. I think user participation needs to be high for this.

Precisely what I was trying to say, although Hanks probably isnt gonna wind up on my list at all, nothing against him but yeah, yall know my list is gonna be eclectic. I might start on it tonight but it's gonna be time consuming if i want to get it right on the first draft. But yeah, low participation is gonna equate to a really random list, while high participation is probably gonna take months to calculate. I'd honestly like to recommend that nobody even post a list unless it's your final one in case CGD wants to try to get ahead of the game and add as we go.

I havent watched Taxi Driver in a long time. Not that I feel I need to because I know it like the back of my hand. It was my favorite movie for a bit as a teenager. But I dont know how anyone thinks it's De Niro's best performance. Raging Bull is where its at. Emotion, physicality, character development, the works.

Does anybody REALLY know what this lady's real name was? In the last couple days I've seen her name as Maria falconetti, Renee falconetti, Marie falconetti, and sometimes she doesn't even have a first name. Lol

I believe Renee Jeanne Falconetti is her actual name. It is the name on her grave, at least. The others could have been stage names; not sure why she would have had so many but it isn't unprecedented either. So mysterious. What isn't mysterious is that it'll be #1 on my list. I know that for sure. The rest is honestly a crapshoot, but I just grabbed my handy dandy notebook to start figuring it out. See you guys in a couple days.
