Not a bad album, but still a big letdown after the fantastic Tres Hombres. The half studio/half live thing doesn't seem to work here and the whole album feels like it was rushed and sloppily assembled just to get something out on the street. Much like Heart's Magazine.

Nice idea. Bad execution. The live side is pretty much garbage. The studio side...this COULD have been the greatest of all ZZ Top albums. "Blue Jean Blues" is something that this band always did well...and never enough. Billy Gibbons absolutely smokes a slow blues like this song. "Mexican Blackbird" is overshadowed and underrated. "Tush" is a classic...and "Heard It On The X" is the tightest little rock and roll song ever and ZZ Top's best song. Ever.
