I'm pretty much with you on those predictions, but I'd swap in the Blazers and the Pacers. Though I think Jazz/Blazers is going to be close (assuming it happens)

If it started today:

EAST

Bucks over Pistons in 5
Raps over Nets in 5
76ers over Magic in 5
Celtics over Pacers in 6

Bucks over Celtics in 7
Raps over 76ers in 6

Bucks over Raps in 7 (Raps fall short. Again. d'oh! )

WEST

Warriors over Spurs in 5
Nuggets over OKC in 7
Rockets over Clips in 4
Jazz over Blazers in 6

Warriors over Jazz in 5
Rockets over Nuggets in 7

Warriors over Rockets in 6 (Dang. Again.)

Warriors over Bucks in 6. Then the Warriors fall apart in free-agency. End of a dynasty.

Honestly pretty happy with how my pre-season predictions went. 7/8 right in the west (damn you Lakers!).

Quote:
1-Warriors. Depends on injuries or how much they'll give a fuck in regular season

Yep!

Quote:

It might actually turn out to be difficult for some teams that were thought to be safe, like Rockets and Jazz. I wonder if they can turn it around.

Should have accounted for Jazz's difficult schedule in the beginning of the year. Better form from Donovan also helped. Meanwhile, the Rockets turnaround is pretty much due to Harden playing out of his mind. I give him a slight edge in the MVP race.

Nuggets - even better than I thought. Still I feel like they're not a safe option to bet for in the playoffs.
Blazers - same, even better than I thought. Not likely to make noise in playoffs, esp. after Nurkić going down Sad
Spurs - reliably in playoffs as predicted, but doubt they can go far this year.

Quote:
11-Clippers. No big stars anymore, but lots of depth I think.

Underestimated how far this depth would take them! Kind of bad luck, that they ended up only 8th.

Out of playoffs:
Quote:
15-Kings. Not as bad as they might seem

I expected maybe 25-30 wins, nothing like this. Fox developed into a great player really fast, Hield was fantastic, Bagley turned out to be a nice pick. And there's still so much more potential to unlock (Giles!!). The two Serbs were good, but I think Bogdanović can be so much better than this...

Not that surprised with Pelicans missing playoffs tbh.
Quote:
Lakers might need a proper center and more outside shooting

Ended up being true. Surprised how badly the trade deadline went. What the hell is with the Muscala/Zubac swap?

I watched Mavs a lot. They'd probably get to my prediction of "close to 40 wins" if they kept their team together. The Porzingis trade is IMO kind of a high risk, high reward type of thing. I did kind of want to see how Dončić/DSJ backcourt could develop, but this is an even more exciting pairing. Still need more shooters, maybe another defensive guard, or another solid backup big to be able to contend (that's assuming KP plays as well as he did without new injuries, and that Luka keeps developing).
Not sure where Timberwolves are going.
Suns are building something nice, but they'll need a solid point guard lol. And more experience altogether. Two more years?

19loveless91 wrote:
So damn, the west looks to be even more brutal than expected - it turns out I had underrated Grizzlies
Turns out I had not.

Bit worse with my predictions for the east. Overrated the Celtics, but I guess who hadn't...
Bucks even better than expected. Raptors about according to expectations.
Quote:
Sixers. I don't think they will make a significant step forward /.../ They might depend on Fultz progress for more

Or on the trades they made lol. Their starting 5 is great, but man, the bench doesn't have much going for it, no? They depend on Embiid too much.

Pacers were a positive surprise, especially with Oladipo going down Sad Sad

Underestimated the Nets and Magic greatly. Mainly I looked at the rosters this year vs last, and figured they hadn't made much progress.

Pistons - credit to Griffin for playing so well to put them there.

Out of playoffs.
Heat had problems with injuries throughout the year, which kept them out of playoffs... Still, their ceiling just isn't high enough.
Quote:
if Whiteside is back to his best self

Yeah, nope.
Quote:
Dragić is a bit more consistent than last year

Injuries, but still nope.
Quote:
Richardson/Winslow/Bam take another step forward

Yes to all, but not enough for anything more...

Hornets. What the hell are they trying to do anyway. Perpetual 9-10th seed
Wizards. Rough situation with the Wall injury. They kinda sucked even before that though, surprisingly.
Bulls... some nice young players, curious to see how they all develop
Hawks... Young + Collins is an excellent duo, and they have two more lottery picks this year. Shit, might make playoffs next year in the east, if they keep developing.
Cavs. Lmao way overrated these guys...
Correctly predicted Knicks as last woohoo! At least Knox and Robertson seem nice? The Porzingis trade haul was pretty nice in retrospect? We'll see.

PLAYOFFS PREDICTION

WEST
Warriors over Clippers in 4
Spurs over Nuggets in 7 Or Nuggets in 5, I don't know... I just don't trust them
Thunder over Blazers in 6
Rockets over Jazz in 6 Shitty luck for Jazz, wanted them to go far. I have a feeling it's gonna be similar to last year's matchup

After that - Warriors over Rockets, Thunder over Spurs; Warriors to win WCF easily...

EAST
Bucks over Pistons in 5
Raptors over Magic in 6 With potential to be close. Magic are in form
Sixers over Nets in 5
Celtics over Pacers in 5

Then, Bucks over Celtics (though I reckon it's gonna be pretty close), Raptors over Sixers (also should be close), and no idea about the ECF yet. Does Brogdon come back until then? Should be close.

Very interesting indeed playoffs...

Okay my predictions: *clears throat*

Warriors over Clippers in 5
Nuggets over Spurs in 4
Thunder over Trailblazers in 5
Rockets over Jazz in 6

76ers over Nets in 6
Raptors over Magic in 4
Celtics over Pacers in 5
Bucks over Pistons in 4

Pretty much chalk. Pretty boring predictions. Upsets I most see happening 76ers losing to those scrappy Nets, and the Rockets getting their hearts torn out again by the Jazz.

(I may change picks if predicted match ups end up being incorrect)

I think my 76ers pick is very shaky. I could totally see them imploding also. Boston just as well (which has the deepest team but have hardly looked right all season). The 76ers probably have the highest top end talent potential in the East and more often than not that wins out in 7 game series when one's starters play heavier minutes and it's win or go home. In a year that's too tough to call with the top 4 in the East, I'm going with that. I can see Embiid having a huge, Olaujuwan-like playoffs (who's going to stop him?).

Wouldnt surprise me in the least...

Like I said, very shaky pick on my part.

Milwaukie is actually the most logical choice as they are close enough to the others talent-wise, theyre hungry PLUS no other agendas to distract any of their key players (that I know of). You could possibly say the same about Toronto if Kawhi isnt leaving and is totally locked in.

76ers have a very high ceiling but also a very high risk factor.

Oh look! They lost to the Nets! How nice! Laughing
