I know most of us have pretty different political views here on BEA but I found it would be interesting to look at how they are presented and maybe discuss our thoughts about it. Well For many political compass is the first look to directing an interesting point of view beyonf left and right. You can Take the test here and have a look in the end to your score. Here's mine

I expected to be a lot more leftist but recently I have been questioning my socialist thoughts which brought me more to the right. Also I'm getting slowly more close to anarchism, haha.

So yeah, have fun, don't disrespect each other, be kind :3

I don't know how to post the picture, because I'm a dummy. Let me take it again.

Edit: The first time I scored nearly on the line between left and right, this time I was a little further right. Overall I'm pretty close to the center, which is what I would expect.

Economic Left/Right: 0.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.05

Some of these questions are downright silly though, and it's obvious what side it's going to push you towards depending on the answer. It makes it a little harder to answer some of these questions objectively when you know the outcome.

The political compass is a great quiz, but apart from the quiz, the website has a very strong agenda and doesn't place contemporary politicians accurately on the chart at all. They should ask them to take the quiz instead of putting words in their mouths.

I've taken this quiz numerous times and my exact result changes a little every time. It's always somewhere in the bottom left quadrant, although sometimes fairly close to the center. Most of my answers are consistent every time, but there are several statements on which I could go either way and don't necessarily agree or disagree. So my score depends on how my ideology has been evolving and what current events are salient to the questions, among other things. Today I'm feeling ever so slightly more libertarian (-6.36) than leftist (-6.25). The image from the website won't embed and I'm too lazy to put it on imgur like you did.

P.S. #EleNão

This test feels as old as I am now - I remember doing this test when I was prepubescent (admittedly very slowly and not understanding most of the questions).

It's a noble attempt to move people away from the left-to-right political spectrum, and it gives people a label that seems more sophisticated, but it still has the same reductionist traps of the left-to-right system.

I'm worried tests like this only further political division. We send grids to one another to show what camp we're in, how devoted to that camp we are, rather than what we think about actual policy. Views on foreign policy, identity politics, surveillance, abortion, nationalism etc can't all be lumped between 'Authoritarian' and 'Libertarian'. Those are discussions that ought to be had on a case-by-case basis.

This test also strengthens the 'horseshoe theory' that centrist like to wave around. 'Authoritarian' suddenly means just 'bad' and 'oppressive' where Hitler and Stalin are both (according to their extreme examples) labelled authoritarian, ignoring the wholly different exercises and positions of power both totalitarians wielded. We're then left to believe that the only differences between these two leaders are economic ones, which ignores the many core disagreements between the two men's ideologies. Spoiler: they weren't at war because of taxes.

I can count the number of people I've met who tell me they're 'Authoritarian' on one fist.

As other's have pointed out, always be aware what agenda the actual survey might be pushing. Certain questions are worded strongly and ignore a lot of nuances an actual discussion might have to make you feel a certain way (I have no idea if creating a completely neutral quiz like this is possible).

That said, as political quizzes go, this one covers a lot of ground and will get you to have an internal monologue with yourself. It poses political dilemmas outside our current news cycle that we don't always get a chance to think about.

So yeah, do the quiz. Take the result with a grain of salt, and get learning - I'm scared everyday that goes by I'm not learning enough.

I'm also having difficulty posting the image, but I'm:

Economic Left/Right: -4.0
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.13

Which is kinda where Rhyner is if you look at his (two more to the right, one more south).

Some of the questions were clearly designed for Americans, but I remember doing this test in Canadian high school.

As an illustration of how variable this can be, I just took it again and tweaked my answers very slightly. I'd still say my answers are honest and represent my ideology well. My score is now left/right -4.0 and libertarian/authoritarian -4.97. The malleability of these results even for people who have relatively well-developed ideologies (in my case, public policy is one of my primary interests, I've studied ideology academically, and I volunteer every weekend on campaigns) is another big strike against it. And I second many of the critiques others have made.

So you're one of those people who are partial to guillotine reaction gifs Surprised

Connecting music to the compass, there was a fairly popular meme with a female pop star in each quadrant, but Grimes' and Taylor Swift's political shifts this year have made it obsolete.
