The highest ranked album I have no memory of hearing is:
Lateralus by Tool
Which... ewwwwww. But I'm willing to give it a spin, I guess. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

These albums are outstanding. Heavily recommend Station To Station in particular.
Also I just listened to the unanimous recommendation from my list (Closer) and it was good! Doesn't hold a candle to Unknown Pleasures though.
Btw, my RYM list would be:
38. Red - King Crimson
40. Spiderland - Slint
44. The Bends - Radiohead
47. F♯A♯∞ - Godspeed You! Black Emperor
51. Master Of Puppets - Metallica
53. Master Of Reality - Black Sabbath
55. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
56. Ride The Lightning - Metallica
61. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
63. Tago Mago - Can _________________ Add me on RYM

It might end up something like this. Not particularly a Tool fan. Maaaaaybe I'll listen to it just for the sake of it though.
Quote: | you didn't ask, but from your list, i'd check these out (if that's even a goal). none of them are life-changing, but that Tool record has a couple of heavy-funs, the Muse record is, IMO, the best thing Muse has ever done (and yes, Matt Bellamy was basically pretending he was Jeff Buckley at the time, so it doesn't sound much like the MUSE you'd be familiar with), and The Cure record is pretty solid... might have to listen to that one again myself. it's been a while.....
|
Which, genuinely makes me want to check out Showbiz. I'll queue it up. I don't mind Absolution (in... small portions) but haven't enjoyed anything they've done since. Figure I should give The Cure album a listen though... think the only reason I haven't is because it's a smidge long (albeit I suppose that makes me a hypocrite for recommending Disintegration).
And Craola, no love for The Stooges? Based on preference, I think you might dig Fun House a little more than Raw Power (little funkier), but I think both are stellar. Neither are terribly long either, you could be done with both in an ~hour. Bombastic stuff, and undeniably cool driving music (well, not in traffic anyway).

I vote yes. |
I think any albums that people mentioned on here that they haven't listened to should be used. I should have been more clear, it can be any of the albums people haven't gotten around to yet, but it seems, myself included, that most of these have been avoided due to people not liking the artist or genre. |

Best idea I've seen here in a long time. One of the healthiest things you can do musically is get rid of your hates and preconcieved dislikes of anything. It is, after all...MUSIC. What is there to hate? _________________ May we all get to heaven

1. Track/check in on musicians I enjoy through social media, their websites, email lists, discogs, etc.
2. Try out musicians new to me that I liked on recordings from musicians I enjoy; decide on what to try first via discogs or allmusic pr the other musicians involved
3. Maintain additional awareness of new releases thanks to freejazzblog, discogs, allmusic, thequietus, pitchfork, here, etc./see what's riding the hype train
4. Come across something cool in a record store (cool art, sidelong track lengths, cool liner notes, etc.)
5. Lists/charts from web users I'm in tune with
I used to be almost 100% lists/charts but I've been catering my discovery specifically to me the last couple of years
