Disc One of The Conet Project is finished. I don't think I can listen to more than one a day, or I might become The Manchurian Candidate. I'll leave a note whenever i get one done.

Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc. by Dwight Yoakam

Jameth, I don't hear any cowpunk on this, but what I do hear is a damn good country album. This is all good music, but in my opinion Yoakam's slow, sad country ballads have a lot more to offer than his uptempo numbers. I have a feeling this album could be a grower, and I'll have to check out some of his other albums too. 3.5/5.

2. I'll give you a country album too, from one of the most stacked supergroups ever. I only know the title track.

If I could suggest a Yoakam album, it would be his 2012 effort. Real underrated for that year.

I was off base on the cowpunk, he played alongside the cowpunk scene, but never actually played it himself.

[Dwight Yoakam] on how his early shows influenced his music today:

I didn't really get around to doing my own version of cowpunk until the "3 Pears" album [in 2012], and I took that idea with, again, another L.A. artist, Beck, producing on the last album, who had a heart like mine. [The album] "Second Hand Heart" has a little more of a cowpunk edge to it, as does "Liar" as does "The Big Time," which really has a stomp to it. The punk feel is there, probably, in the recklessness of my own electric guitar playing, because I'm not very schooled, and I don't have very great technical acumen. There's a certain reckless aggression to it that's free in its spirit, but I have willful intent.

And yeah, that 3 Pears album is getting played.

And this is another album I'm quite enamored with as well. If there was any moments that I wasn't that crazy about would be the song title Don't Mix Your Drinks. To me that particular track was somewhat boring in relation to the rest of the album. As well as there were a few moments where this album startled me somewhat. Which might be the first time an album did that to me. Otherwise, I find this record an enjoyable listen but also a record that I could see myself getting more invested into. Another thing I want to do with this album is actually read the vocals to see if there are any stories or if the album can grow even further.
Grade:90

I was waiting to see if Pash posted. But for Bay while I do think you might detest this album, at the same time I feel like you should give the college try to No Now.

I love the latest album from Clarence Clarity, so I'll be shocked if I detest No Now. I guess we'll see Laughing

Highwayman by The Highwaymen

The intro to “Highwayman” is incredible, was unexpected, and had my hopes for the rest of the album way up. The rest of the opening track is truly something; how many country songs are there about reincarnation? The next three tracks are fine, but the album from here slides into nauseating, soft-country-for-grannies territory. Their cover of “Against The Wind” is painful. It doesn’t challenge or transform the original in any way. I was singing “this album is almost over” during the closer, “The Twentieth Century Is Almost Over”. Given the talent present, this album is a major disappointment.

Luigii, try Frusciante.
