Wow, this was fantastic! I really, really enjoyed this. 4.5/90? A bit of me is wondering why I love this, but find Can ok given the "krautrock" influence... even if I laughed when I read that.

Purple it's a shame you don't like RIP, I appreciate it more and more as the years go by. One of the very best metal albums of all time. I do understand the vocals issue though.
And now I'll jump in that lyrics discussion completely uninvited
Here's how I view the issue: If a song is too gory and violent for you to listen to, that's completely fine. But I don't see the point in disregarding the song just because of the lyrics. In general, not just metal. I love NFR! even though I pretty much hate the overly dramatic and not very well-written lyrics. It's maybe not the best analogy, and it may be personal, but I don't see why you can't appreciate a song for its good qualities. Misfits example is a good one too, they have deliberately obscene lyrics to provoke a reaction in the listener. Much like horror movies (hence the name horror punk). It doesn't glorify rape and murder any more than Saw, Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc. Of course there are bands with actually problematic lyrics, like fascist, racist or similar themes. Even then I don't find it hard to appreciate the music if it's good. That's maybe because I listen to a lot of black/death metal so I encounter those bands more often than most (not very often, but sometimes). What I personally do in these situations is that I listen to the music without an ounce of guilt or shame (which to me doesn't seem at all morally problematic tbh), but I don't support the band/musician. Same way I don't support people who have perfectly fine songs but are terrible people (Chris Brown and the likes). _________________ Finally updated the overall chart

I don't disregard the song. I can appreciate the good qualities of aforementioned songs by both The Jesus Lizard and Misfits. But for me that doesn't involve separating the rest of the music from the lyrics. I look at songs holistically, and place a greater importance on good lyrics than many (perhaps because of the formative role of hip-hop in my music taste). In many cases the bad lyrics outweigh the good instrumental in my assessment, and in some cases the reverse is true. It's all case-by-case. For what it's worth, I don't like horror movies.
How do you listen to fascist/racist/etc. music without supporting the musician? Torrenting? _________________ Add me on RYM

Hemispheres by Rush
This was great! The hard rock elements made the prog enjoyable, and the prog elements made the hard rock interesting. Add to that a bit of a rock opera vibe I was getting, although I didn't really get much of the lyrics first listen so I could be wrong, and I'm a bit of a sucker for a good rock opera. A distinct voice that may have been a bit off putting when it first came in on the opening track, but pretty quickly it became part of the appeal. The last song, La Villa Strangiato, was excellent. This is the album I've liked best from this session of Zep's hard rocking chart, closely followed by GS!YBE. I give it 8.5/10, and in a weak year for me that's good enough to come in at 2/13 for 1978, and 48/100 for the 70's.
Brockhampton have some great singles so try Saturation II.

Atomizer by Big Black
This is a tough one to rate. Instrumentally, it's even better than The Jesus Lizard album, while operating in the same niche. Lyrically, it's not quite as objectionable overall, but it starts off with a real doozy. Jordan, Minnesota is a very stomach-churning song written from the perspective of a child sex abuser. Albini now regrets the song given that the facts in Jordan ended up differing from sensational initial reports. The opener significantly detracts from my enjoyment of the album, but the rest is good enough to redeem Atomizer as a record. 3/5.

The Legend Of Bigfoot by The Last Emperor
This is an unauthorized album of demos from the underground hip hop artist "The Last Emperor". Wonderful. A fantastic collection of well-written lyrics and classic boom bap production. A lot of the tracks last too long, but it kept my attention for most of the runtime. It's also clean as a whistle. I don't think I heard any profanity on the album at all, so take that for what you will. He was also using superheroes in his lyricism before a lot of the others.
This was one of the better lines:
"Do you know the difference between fact the fiction
I bear witness that the power of hip hop is endless"
I'll relisten to Viva La Vida too. It was produced by Brian Eno, so maybe it sounds better to me 10 years on. When it came out, I'd just started to get into punk music, so the last thing I wanted to hear was a wussy Coldplay album. (No offense meant Seth )
Dammit! Guess, I'll still relisten to that anyway. Baystate, you'll get Viva La Vida instead. Nice coincidence.
Darc Mind - Symptomatic Of A Greater Ill
Karin Krog- Joy
Colin Potter-2 nights
Xiphiidae - Used Parts Galaxy
Wongraven - Fjelltronen
Christina Kubisch – Night Flights
Death Toll 80k - Harsh Realities
Księżyc - Księżyc
Dom- Edge Of Time
Derek Bailey - Improvisation
