1.

Leftoverture by Kansas

There's cheesy music, and then there's Leftoverture, which is out here swimming around in a vat of fondue. Good God. It is a strong contender for the cheesiest album I've ever heard. They have strong technical skills, but struggle with converting those into songs that are aesthetically pleasing and not ridiculous wank. The first half is halfway decent, and it's the second half that plunges this into bad album territory. The worst prog album I've heard so far. 2/5.

2. This is the only one of those I've heard, and I enjoyed it:

A Sufi And A Killer by Gonjasufi

Joy by Karin Krog

An artist that needs way more exposure on this site. In the history of unique leading ladies, she one of the early ones, coming along at the same time as Nico & others. A vocal jazz artist from Norway, she performed with some of the cool cats of the day including John Surman, Jan Garbarek, Dexter Gordon, Paul Bley, Archie Shepp, etc. And, on this album, the first song was composed by Anne Peacock, so she has connections to a lot of great avant-garde jazz artists. So, if you like some jazz with a tinge of the avant garde, then give this a listen.

Damn Baystate, that's pretty brutal Very Happy I don't think any of those albums are going to make up for it, so just listen to Hot Fuss, because it's an easy listen.

Darc Mind - Symptomatic Of A Greater Ill
Colin Potter-2 nights
Xiphiidae - Used Parts Galaxy
Wongraven - Fjelltronen
Christina Kubisch ‎– Night Flights
Death Toll 80k - Harsh Realities
Derek Bailey - Improvisation
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Michael Brook- Night Song
Tom Johnson- An Hour For Piano
Renegade Soundwave- Soundclash

Oh, and junodog's chart should be next.

A Blaze In The Northern Sky by Darkthrone

I hate saying stuff like this, but I think I'd rather listen to a metronome. I found the lack of dynamics of tone and musical palate/rhythm incredibly limited and overall lazy. 65/2.

2. What's the source of your list Chief? Also go for An Hour For Piano.

It's from my "watch later" playlist on youtube, which is constantly changing more than anything else. It's where I try and organize things that look interesting to me from various sources. This chart, for example, has a lot of albums I've listened to as well as the one I'm about to.

https://rateyourmusic.com/list/minox73/...o_extra/2/

So basically a bunch of charts and lists and things together. I can start putting a chart for each album again if people would like that.

LedZep: I probably shouldn't have been so harsh. I was just off that high from the other rec you gave me and then that record is why I have a hard time appreciating a lot of metal. But thank you for helping me find a great one for my aesthetics at least. And yes other classic artists I love like U2 and The Beatles get bashed all the time.

Chief, it'd be cool to know but not necessary. Was more curious than anything else.

Well Darkthrone is definitely not an easy-listen, but like a lot of great music once you "get" it, it's quite good. Not judging you or anything, although that part about them being limited and lazy is a bit much lol Very Happy There's a reason why they sound the way they do, but I guess either you like it or you don't, and there's nothing wrong with not liking it

(1)

A Sufi And A Killer by Gonjasufi
"There's a Sufi and a killer in everyone." - Gonjasufi describing this album. It's a weird mix of groovy lo-fi production and indie songwriting. Some beats sound like typical lo-fi indie, some have 60s garage rock feel, some have more electronic instrumentation in them, and some of the beats sound like they could fit on a typical abstract hip hop record. There's a bit of everything here. Didn't pay much attention to the lyrics. Wasn't too thrilled with the songs, but as an album it's quite diverse and solid experience. 7.5/10

(2)
We'll steer clear of heavier metal for the time being. White Light From the Mouth of Infinity is a seminal Swans record. Goth, industrial and balladry mixed with the usual Swans experimental supernova.

12. Delroy Edwards - Hangin' At The Beach
13. Ghostpoet - Some Say I So I Say Light
14. Billy Woods - Today, I Wrote Nothing
17. Áine O'Dwyer - Music For Church Cleaners Vol. I And II

Tom Johnson: An Hour For Piano by Frederic Rzewski

Ha! Another one I've been waiting to listen to for awhile, and another one for the old chart. I haven't felt the need to add anything to the overall until these last two. I kind of forgot that I was doing that TBH. I was going to take the best that I listened to and add them to my overall, but nothing had struck me as chart worthy. This is another album that is an exercise in patience and repetition. I'm not sure how many times I need to hear a minimalist album do pretty much the same concept until I get bored with it, because so far it hasn't happened. This album is exactly as advertised, about an hour of a guy carefully working his way up and down the piano. Sometimes bright, sometimes ominous, and almost boring at times, but a change will come to reel you back into it. Or maybe not. Very Happy

Ledzep, Ghostpoet is a cool dude. Kind of a rapper, but his cadence is basically spoken word. I think that album is way underrated.
