They're pretty much two completely different bands. The one presented here with Kevin Ayers in it, and the one that made Third, which is surely a fine album, but lost a bit of the humor and mania of the leadman. I've always thought of him as a bit more centered Syd Barrett.

Will Of The Gods Is Great Power by Scald

What a way to wake up this morning. I feel like I have the power to go out and conquer nations now thanks to Scald. Russian metal in the 90s is certainly nothing I've heard much of, but if there's anything else that sounds like this, then I'll need to find it. Excellent Doom Metal that doesn't just drone on for days, it actually has some fantastic melodic bridges that make the tracks standout from eachother. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a decent metal album.

And, how about another great metal album as the pick. Tiamat-Wildhoney.

Definitely, almost like Genesis with and without Gabriel. Although Wyatt and Ratledge were always present. Well at least until Wyatt left in 72'.

Wildhoney by Tiamat

To say this was right up my alley would be an understatement. I've been relistening to a lot of fantastic gothic metal in the last few weeks. Katatonia, Saturnus, Moonspell... and now Tiamat, for the first time. It fits right in, not just because of a genre tag, but quality-wise as well. When gothic (doom) metal is good, it's really good. This is one of the mellower examples of the genre (so no death or black metal elements), in fact it's almost as much goth rock as it is metal. Mysterious, sombre and cool! A few bells and whistles in the production department like synths and electronics hanging in the background, and top notch songwriting. It's all you really need. Clean guitars sound incredible, the solos are perfect, piano passages beautiful... I was hooked from the first riff, and I have a feeling that repeated listens will only make it better. A song like Do You Dream Of Me? can be enjoyed by anyone who likes goth music, and in fact the whole album is an enjoyable listen even if you don't like metal. The whole second half is pretty mellow, but just as good as the first half. Highlights? Every single song. Even the instrumentals. Thanks for choosing this chief Very Happy 9 or 9.5/10

Voice Crack sounds weird and noisy, might be interesting judging by the first minute.

Earflash by Voice Crack

Eat your heart out Matmos. Think making music out of entirely plastic materials or surgical supplies was ingenius? Well, Voice Crack makes music with broken instruments, broken household appliances, and broken recording equipment. (I kid; I adore Matmos.) But yeah, it's exactly what it sounds like based on the name of the band and the title, and, saying as though a frequent collaborator of this group is Borbetomagus, that should be enough red flags to deter most people from listening to it, but I found some enjoyment out of it. Fun for a half hour at least. Making it any longer would have just resulted in an even worse headache.

Ledzep, Night Drive isn't their best, but it fits a certain mood and a e s t h e t i c.

Night Drive by Chromatics
I may or may not have heard this one before. I love Kill For Love and Closer To Grey, in fact the former is one of my favourite albums of the decade and the latter top 30 of 2019. I don't know what it is with me and Chromatics, I don't even like synthpop and Italo disco that much but everything I've heard from them was incredible. And this one is no different. In fact, it's not too far from Kill For Love, the only thing that's a downgrade is the album's lack of versatility and diversity. The tunes are still here, it's as a e s t h e t i c a l as always, there's a fantastic cover of a classic in Running Up That Hill. Could listen to it the whole day. Yes, even the closing 15-minute Tick Of The Clock which is by far the "worst" cut. Italians Do It Better, you can bet on that. It lands on my under construction 2000s chart, and I'll try to pick up the deluxe version with 5 extra songs sometime. 8.5 or 9/10

Let's take a break from headache-inducing music with some soothing Sand. Sounds like a Terry Riley/Brian Eno collab featuring Sakamoto.

Wasting Light by Foo Fighters

This is nothing too original (even the cover is clearly derivative), but it's really fun, well-made, catchy rock with just the right amount of heaviness. A very satisfying listen with several great songs clustered at the bookends. I might slightly prefer it to their top-ranked album. 3.5/5.

Moondog by Moondog

I enjoyed this more than the other Moondog album. Again Moondog takes me into another universe, with experimental percussion, musical compositions that seem to be inspired from all over the world, sounds of nature, and overall a weird and wonderful experience that seems quite unique and daring for the '50s. 8/10

This top artists idea does seem to give a great selection. A few to choose from here, but my favourite of those is Teens Of Style.

Teens Of Style by Car Seat Headrest

I think I'll give the '40s a miss and move onto some individual years, one per decade, starting with 1960.

4. Blues & Roots by Charles Mingus

These are pretty much my thoughts about their whole career. Nothing groundbreaking at all, but highly enjoyable. I like that Wasting Light was recorded almost exclusively live in a garage, giving it that necessary edge and roughness. Glad you liked it Smile

Coloring Book by Chance The Rapper
I've played Acid Rap and Coloring Book back to back twice, just for fun. I may be a bit biased since I've heard Acid Rap several times before, but the follow up is a downgrade overall. I liked the lyrics a bit better, and the production is fantastic, much richer and more interesting than on Acid Rap. However it's too long, and the songwriting isn't on the same level. A bit like Run The Jewels 2 and 3. Of course, it has the hit No Problem, which honestly isn't even close to the best song. I prefered the other cuts, mostly those which saw Chance talking about himself as a person, his friends, religion. Blessings was incredible, both lyrically and musically. And I'm usually not drawn to Chance because of his lyrics, but that's not the case here. Deeply personal, talking not only about him as a believer, as a father and activist too. Smooth, detailed and simply fantastic production, great hook featuring Jamila Woods, the whole package. Same Drugs is a much better single than No Problem imo, even if it's a little repetitive. But the Blessings/Same Drugs combo may be my favourite part of the album, although there's a number of great songs. Finish Line/Drown was a MBDTF worth epic. All Night would sound great in a club, might mix it in my high quality trash playlist. The closer, Blessings reprise, is lyrically maybe the best Chance track.

"Like Nat King, I'm doing the dad thing
I speak of wondrous unfamiliar lessons from childhood
Make you remember how to smile good
I'm pre-currency, post-language, anti-label
Pro-famous, I'm Broadway Joe Namath
Kanye's best prodigy
He ain't signed me but he proud of me
I got some ideas that you gotta see
Make a vid with shawty and they ship it like the Odyssey
They never seen a rapper practice modesty
I never practice, I only perform
I don't even warn, I don't eat it warm, I won't be reborn
I speak to God in public, I speak to God in public
He keep my rhymes in couplets
He think the new shit jam, I think we mutual fans"

Liked this quite a bit, 8/10

Teens Of Style by Car Seat Headrest

This is great. Apparently it's both the band's debut and a re-recorded greatest hits of Toledo's previous work under the moniker, and they nail it. Really well-written songs, pleasing crunchy guitars, and a healthy dose of catchiness. Stacks up to everything else I've heard from Car Seat Headrest, and it's been on my to-do list for at least four years, so I'm glad I finally got to it. 4/5.
