Not sure why it took me so long to get around to After the Gold Rush, but it was really good. Didn't blow me away, but was quite good. I felt it wasn't that coherent and switched moods and styles pretty rapidly, but otherwise absolutely no complaints.

Today's your lucky day! Listen to Sign O' The Times, which is tied for my 2nd favorite Prince album (I mean that as a compliment). It's a little too long but there's so much good stuff on it...

My list:
43. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis
68. Weezer (The Blue Album) by Weezer
74. Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins
78. Achtung Baby by U2
79. A Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay
93. For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver
97. Rage Against the Machine by Rage Against the Machine
98. Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective
103. Harvest by Neil Young
104. Neon Bible by Arcade Fire

I listened to I've Never Loved a Man semi-recently and wasn't a huge fan. I can't deny that Franklin has a terrific voice, but listening to terrific voices is not really one of the reasons I enjoy music. I enjoyed this a lot more; this may be blasphemy because her other album has "Respect," but I think this one has better songs. Not much more to say but this may make me go back to her other album.

Her albums grew on me for sure.

Symbolic by Death (Metal)
This was an ok experience. I feel like I've heard better metal (not that I've heard a lot of metal either). About 4 songs I get tired of the monotony of the sonic landscapes they can create (not until a break down in Without a Judgement was I slightly surprised by anything). It's a pretty flat dynamic and 70% of the time I can't tell if they have a bassist or not (part of that is the tone choice of the bassist and part of it is because often metal really cares mostly for the drums and guitar). It's tight like you'd expect from metal, cheesy as hell as you'd expect from this kind of a metal band. It makes me respect Iron Maiden and early Metallica much more. Also I have to disagree this is the most technical metal music I've ever heard. Perhaps I've been spoiled by Animals as Leaders...

2. Sandinistar I think I equally recommended you first Joshua Tree and then juxtapose this with their next studio effort:

Achtung Baby by U2

3.
173. Blackwater Park by Opeth (2001)
189. The Infamous by Mobb Deep (1995)
201. Kyuss by Kyuss (1994) - Gone done listened before but didn't rate on RYM... best be doin so)
208. Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo by Ennio Morricone (1966)
210. First Utterance by Comus (1971)
214. Painkiller by Judas Priest (1990)
215. Sevent Son of a Seventh Son by Iron Maiden (1988)
220. Burzum by Filosofem (1996)
226. Clube da Esquina by Milton Nascimento & Lô Borges
228. Vol 4 by Black Sabbath (probably listened to, but another go for the refresh of the rating)
240. Blues & Roots by Charlie Mingus

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince

My view on this record is much the same as it was during my first listen. There are a lot of great songs (about 34 minutes' worth), and even more not great songs (about 46 minutes' worth). That includes a particularly long gap between great songs between Starfish And Coffee and Strange Relationship (about 22 minutes). Agree with everyone who says this would be Prince's best with a little trimming. As it is, it's very good, but a missed opportunity. 3.5/5.

2. Seth, try this:

Clube Da Esquina by Milton Nascimento/Lô Borges

97. Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine
99. Back In Black - AC/DC
118. Absolution - Muse
120. Quadrophenia - The Who
123. Hail To The Thief - Radiohead
131. Beggars Banquet - The Rolling Stones [heard in 2016, rated 3.5/5]
134. Hot Fuss - The Killers

Hot Fuss by The Killers

It's kind of weird that an album that I used to hate as a kid is not quite as bad today. I was familiar with most of this album; it was everywhere. "Somebody Once Told Me" is still that earwormy kind of awful, but the rest is OK to good. I've assimilated enough 80s post punk that all of their influences are clear to me. I would still probably rather listen to Interpol, but this has grown much better over the years. Now, 134th of all-time? Not even close. All of the post punk bands that came before, and did this exact sound first, would like to have a word.

That's not the best list of albums, let's here your thoughts on Absolution.

August and Everything After- Counting Crows
Metropolis Pt. 2- Dream theater
Sam's Town- The Killers
Everything Must Go- Manic Street Preachers

Honestly, pretty much. And I'm not an OK Computer fan to begin with. This dragged a bit and nothing on it was great. However, there were some good songs, and I would say there is barely more good than bad. I'm a generous grader sometimes. 3/5.

2. Idk what to give you at this point. Try this I guess:

Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers

Maybe expand the list or switch sources so that people actually have some choice? It's not as much of a game when the options dwindle. If you really want to get the last three out of the way, you're free to listen to them on your own.

3. My list:

after 75. Slow Riot For New Zerø Kanada (EP) - Godspeed You! Black Emperor
115. The Bootleg Series Vol. 4: Live 1966 - The "Royal Albert Hall" Concert - Bob Dylan
139. Selling England By The Pound - Genesis
141. Live At Massey Hall 1971 - Neil Young
149. Songs Of Love And Hate - Leonard Cohen [heard in 2016, rated 3.5/5]
156. Larks' Tongues In Aspic - King Crimson
158. Lateralus - Tool
163. Trans-Europe Express - Kraftwerk [heard in 2017, rated 3.5/5]
165. Powerslave - Iron Maiden
167. Live At Leeds - The Who

Very true. And two years later, he released the perfectly coherent Harvest

Yeah, so the insert link thing is going weird for me as well, I guess that's been a problem last couple days? I type in the name of the album, and nothing even comes up.

Anyways, Everything Must Go was another good album by the Manic Street Preachers. Definitely a change of pace from the previous album, not nearly as punky, but it's still well-made rock music.

OK, I'll start adding in some that I haven't listened from the next 500 then.

August and Everything After- Counting Crows
Metropolis Pt. 2- Dream theater
Sam's Town- The Killers
The Idler Wheel- Fiona Apple
Ray of Light- Madonna
Fever to Tell- Yeah yeah Yeahs
Modern Life Is Rubbish- Blur
All That You Can't Leave Behind- U2
Salad Days- Mac Demarco
Lungs- Florence + Machine

Man, this sucks.

Listen to the GY!BE "EP", Baystate.

1. Slow Riot For New Zerø Kanada (EP) by Godspeed You! Black Emperor

This is pretty close to what I expected. Beautiful music throughout, some crescendoes, and a weird vocal sample. It sounds consistently great, so I'm going to give it the same rating as the other two I've heard from them: 4/5.

~~~~~
Chief, thanks for expanding your list. My favorite of those is Salad Days.
My list (source explained in earlier post):
39. Blonde - Frank Ocean [heard in 2016, rated 3.5/5]
45. Flower Boy - Tyler, The Creator [heard in 2017, rated 3.5/5]
after 48. Exmilitary - Death Grips
55. Love Power Peace: Live At The Olympia, Paris, 1971 - James Brown
72. Lifestylez Of Da Poor & Dangerous - Big L [heard in 2016, rated 3/5]
78. Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde - The Pharcyde [heard in 2017, rated 3/5]
79. Doggystyle - Snoop Dogg
80. Strangeways, Here We Come - The Smiths [heard in 2016, rated 3.5/5]
Salad Days by Mac Demarco
Mac seems like a real chill dude who listens to a lot of T. Rex and Ariel Pink. His music is good and relaxed, but it's not as immediate as I want my rock music. This is the easiest listen on that list that I had. I'm not looking forward to the rest.
Baystate, listen to Bizarre Ride again, it's definitely an evergreen pick on my hip hop list.
August and Everything After- Counting Crows
Metropolis Pt. 2- Dream theater
Sam's Town- The Killers
The Idler Wheel- Fiona Apple
Ray of Light- Madonna
Fever to Tell- Yeah yeah Yeahs
Modern Life Is Rubbish- Blur
All That You Can't Leave Behind- U2
Heartbreaker- Ryan Adams
Lungs- Florence + Machine
