Hums Of The Lovin' Spoonful by The Lovin' Spoonful

This was a nice easy listen. A bit folky, a bit country, a bit poppy, and a bit rocky. Good variety, some light heartedness, and a positive vibe. Probably deserves better than the #361 ranking for the 60's it has here.

Luigii: You should enjoy Gorillaz, it's a fun album.

Kollage by Bahamadia

This was an album that I was familiar with, it's mainly produced by DJ Premier and Da Beatminerz (a couple of my favorites), so it's unsurprising that I enjoyed this lowkey album. It oozes cool from the first beat, the first verse. She's got a great flow and never wavers on any track from the measured and even tone.

Perhpas it's a bit cheeky for me to pick my own albums, but I can't resist.

Silver Apples for you.

Now this was a great album. Hell in certain regards I would say it is excellent. Sounds like it is in its own world. Sounding weird somewhat trippy. But in reality it is a chill album. If there was a caveat I would have with this record would be how by the tail end of the album, it started to lose some steam. Compared to the beginning as well as the middle, songs like Starshine or Slow Country and M1 A1 while quite ambitious feel a little tired. Though M1 A1 gets real good at its second half. The only other thing I could argue is that compared to later albums, this one doesn't quite have the full sound you would get on Demon Days. But at the end I did enjoy this a lot. And hopefully could get another visit really soon. Grade wise:85 but quite close to a 90.

I'm on mobile right now, so this post will be a bit wonky. I'll edit later.

Non-Fiction by Black Sheep

This was a step backward in nearly every way from it's predecessor. Believe it or not, the outro was the best track. I'm really not kidding. It wasn't bad, it just was not nearly as good as A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing.

Listen to The Blueprint.

Hey I totally forgot that Jay Z is a punk, and his music is only on his own streaming platform.

So, I gave Luigii this hip hop album to replace it.

Jay Z, you'll get your time when I tackle 2003. But since Blueprint isn't available, I'll go with what Chief gave. And man this was a treat.
(1)

In one breath, Chief is correct for labeling this as a hip hop album. I mean there is a song that features both MF Doom as well as Aesop Rock on the same track as well as having other MC's on this record. As well as the palette is quite hip hop in nature. But it is quite glitchy and somewhat experimental on it's sound design. In one breath I kinda wish I used Youtube to keep it a surprise. But at the same time I am glad I noticed since this is excellent. Quite otherworldly but also quite addicting. Those stuttering grooves are quite intoxicating. If there is a big positive, it makes me quite fascinated for some of the hip hop albums on this list that are coming right up.
Grade:90 but could be a 95.

Silver Apples by Silver Apples

I can see why this was a bit of a cult classic. A great album that was ahead of it's time. Psychedelic rock with electronic elements. Bleeps and bloops, and oscillators (from an instrument created by the main guy in the band), but not overdone. They are used effectively within the song rather than dominating, helping create some atmospheric songs. When Silver Apples are referred to within the same conversations as Suicide, Spacemen 3, and Can there's a good chance I'll like it. A great choice for me. 8.5/10, 5/18 for 1968, and 31/93 for the 60's.

Luigii: Get fired up with the best SOAD album, and my favourite album of 2001!

As I continue going through these lists, genres like metal which I wouldn't touch as often become more of a mainstay for me. I bring this up because this album right here is excellent. I think my critique would be compare to an album like V from Symphony X, is that it doesn't hit me emotionally or with its complexity. But this is track after track a slap to the face of fun metal to head bang to. Not only do I have to give it to the lead singer, where he somewhat reminds me of Mike Patton of being eccentric but also quite talented. I also got to give it to the band for making a very addicting as well as passionate album. Like this album flys by very quickly.
Now for Pash, Best of 2001? For me, no. There are some albums coming up that I love more. However, this is an essential album for the year. And I'm happy to get this album done. Grade:90

Pash, you will probably hate me for this but we got to get rid of that Sonny Sharrock album.

Lionheart by Kate Bush

This is quite nice, and my first impression is it's a bit underrated in her discography. Several great songs, and a few that veer into cheesiness. The more ornate arrangements are better than the more rock-based ones, which fall rather flat. Wouldn't suggest it at as an entry point, but definitely worth a listen if you like Kate Bush. 3.5/5.

Now this album right here is one of the records that I completely adore the hell out of. Like this is close to a 100 that you could get to me. I even argue if I could give it that grade. I mean, the only song that I'm not crazy about is An Echo, a Stain and even then that track is really good. My only complaint with that track would probably be the tone. Like sonic-ally it fits with the micro beats that are laced within the album but compared to some of the brighter moments of the album it feels a bit odd. But otherwise, I love this album. Like it is one of the few albums that really gets me close to shedding a tear due to not only Bjork's performances but also the string sections. Like when Bjork says "It's Warmer Now" in Undo and those looming strings come into the mix, I feel like I need to have a box of tissues close to me.
Grade wise:95 but it is close to a 100. Damn close.
P.S. Shout outs to the duo Matmos to being part of this album. For anyone curious for some weird electronic music from 2001, listen to there album.
