Black Woman by Sonny Sharrock

This was a weird and strange, fascinating album. It was worth concentrating on as there was a lot to listen to. I like a bit of organised chaos so I preferred Peanut over the moaning of Black Woman and the wailing and screaming of Portrait of Linda (which I don't think my family enjoyed much lol). Not sure what to make of Blind Willie...for now it gets a pass, but Bialero was really good. As a whole maybe a bit indulgent at times over listenability but I guess that comes with the avant-garde territory. So ups and downs but overall a good 7.5/10, 24/31 for 1969, and 69/94 for the 60's.

Luigii: Origin of Symmetry, it's been a long time since I've listened to it.

Happy Easter everyone. Hope everyone is having fun.

Now this record right here slaps. Like musically it hits me in almost all the right ways. Vocally, even though I could argue it might be nonsense when the main singer is wailing, it is passionate and brings in a nice texture to the record. It's grand and vast. Not only do I need to give the rest of Muse underneath my listening belt, this feels like a gold standard for me to get high on my list. Grade:95

Honestly I could talk for some more but I gonna be playing some board games real soon, and that is so fun.

Benji by Sun Kil Moon

I can see why this album gets a bad rap for being indulgent, and that scared me away to this point, but I actually really like most of what he's doing here. There are a significant number of moments of poignancy that carry things along, and the musical backing fits the lyrics well. I will have to see if it's a grower. It's certainly a depressive record though, and as such kind of cratered my mood. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 3.5/5.

Human by Death (Metal)

That's kinda a funny title... human by death. Anyway, I can see why this is ranked higher than other efforts. It captures the style a bit more in an expected manner (I suppose that can be good and bad). I of course didn't find anything incredible about this other than the musicianship. 75.

Ah Discovery. I'm glad that I gave this another listen. Because even though the last time I listen to this thinking it was great, it got better. Like the upbeat portions of this album are very punchy and quite animated. But I get even more fascinated with the more chilled out sections of the album. That track Nightvisions I would argue is quite underrated. If there was a critique of the record, it would be more of a me thing where I feel like there was some dance albums that speak to me more emotionally or feel like a part of me. Like I could understand if there were users where in highschool/college when this came out and loved as well as cherished it. And though I do have those feelings, there are other dance albums that speak to that sensibility.
But still a necessary listen for 2001. As well as a pretty good introduction to electronic music since there a lot of cues to the music culture of the 70's and 80's.
Grade:90

Shawcross by Good Morning

A nice little jangly EP. Clocking in at less than 18 minutes, it brings to mind artists such as Mac DeMarco. I definitely enjoyed it. That said, it feels a bit insubstantial for an overall chart, but to each their own! 3.5/5.

Musically, the only complaint I could think of would be that some songs feel a little more ambitious like the last track. But the sound not only does it keep myself engaged as well as has a good chunk of toe tappers, it definitely sounds like it takes place in rural america. Now the only other critic I would have with this is Bob's vocals. To me it is the definition of a double edge sword. Where in one hand, not only does it give an authenticity to what he is saying but also shows off his age. On the other hand and this might be situational but I'm not that crazy about his voice. Now I wouldn't say it's bad its just not my cup of tea.
However I had a lot of fun with this album. And I'm curious for his work later on.

ha - your review of Bob reminds me of a conclusion (dunno if right) I came to about him... he does what he does and doesn't give a shit if you like it. I think I remember one of my favorite quotes of his is something like... an artists job is to find the right balance between pleasing his audience and pleasing himself... I think why bob is so awesome is he nearly always was on the side of pleasing himself and hoped the audience was there too.

Honestly that's not a bad assertion. And I agree. Though I could argue that notion of not giving a fuck is so greater if given to different artists.

We Have The Facts And We're Voting Yes ... For Cutie

I love The Postal Service, but this was somehow my first time listening to DCFC. The sound of this record (indie pop meets midwest emo) is really good, but there aren't quite enough standout songs to carry it to greatness. At least not unless some of them hit me harder with future listens. 3.5/5.
