Same here. Nothing against it really, but I think Nevermind is a little bit of its time in terms of the production and that kind of teen angst. I cant deny the massive cultural influence though and I loved the album back in the early 90s.

Okay im not too hot on Nevermind, but Kurt was actually a poor boy who bounced between homes and was often homeless when he was out of high school. And if you've ever been to Aberdeen you'd know its definitely NOT a wealthy suburban community by any means, its always been a working class logging community. Just because its a white guy doing introsoective rock doesnt mean hes some privileged crybaby, Kurt was one who genuinely had it tough his whole life.

This album changed my life when I was 16, the year it came out. For goodness sake Mr Cobain invented a new genre - grunge. And spelled the death of hair metal.
Cue an avalanche of folk telling me he didn't lol. But he was certainly a pioneer.

Aberdeen is close enough to the Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia megalopolis to bear that influence. Like many towns that started out as rural outposts, the city grew out to leave its imprint. But "suburban" was inaccurate. My bad. I have a bad habit of thinking of anything not either inner city or truly rural as one lump of in between and that's lazy on my part.
And just for the record, my wife's parents divorced when she was nine... and she doesnt make a career of bitching about it (or any of the other hardships she endured either).
Instead of the incessant wallowing in misery, why not try to be inspiring and sing about how you e overcome?
The second he blew his own head off, he proved what I'd been saying all along.
Oh, yeah, and philosophical discussions and biographical details aside, the music is lame as well. Any kid with a couple lessons under his immature belt can play Cobain.

It seems like every time music addresses a topic in a way that doesn't inspire people to overcome their struggles or whatever, we rehash this conversation.
And that's just a tasteless remark on his suicide. Let me guess - you think people who don't 'conquer' their depression are weak-willed?
The constant societal pressure to sweep feelings under the rug, to be inspirational, and to keep a stiff upper lip is what contributes to many people not seeking mental health treatment when they need it, out of shame and stigma. Go figure.
