What are your favorite songs about streets. I never realized there were so many good ones until I thought about it. These are my favorites. They're heavily slanted towards New York because that's where I'm from and you tend to like a song better if you're familiar with the street they're talking about. These are all REAL streets, but I also like a lot of songs about fake streets.

Penny Lane ....The Beatles
Baker Street... Gerry Rafferty
59th Street Bridge Song... Simon and Garfunkel
2nd Avenue... Art Garfunkel
Creeque Alley..The Mamas & the Papas
Positively 4th Street... Bob Dylan
Central Park West... Ian Hunter
Celluloid Heroes (Hollywood Boulevard)... The Kinks
Telegraph Road... Dire Straits
Gibsom Street... Laura Nyro
53rd & 3rd...Ramones
42nd Street psycho Blues ... Janis Ian
42nd Street... Golden Earring
14th St. Break... Beastie Boys
Utopia Parkway... Fountains of Wayne
5th & Vine.. Livingston Taylor
Cyprus Avenue... Van Morrison
Madison Avenue... Bachman-Turner Overdrive
Slaughter on Tenth Avenue... Mick Ronson
Across 110th Street ... Bobby Womack
Toulouse Street... The Doobie Brothers
Pleasant Valley Sunday... The Monkees
Wall Street Shuffle... 10cc
Main Street ... Bob Seger
In France they Kiss on Main Street... Joni Mitchell
On Broadway... The Drifters
Bleecker Street... Simon and Garfunkel
Blue Jay Way... The Beatles
Denmark Street... The Kinks
Highway 49... George Thorogood and the Destroyers
Highway 61... The Blasters
Highway 61 Revisited...PJ Harvey
Lamb Lies Down On Broadway... Genesis
Electric Avenue... Eddy Grant
Streetcar Named Desire... Alex North
Avenue B... Iggy Pop
Avenue P... Carole King
Avenue D... Etta James
Avenue A... Red Rider
Copperhead Road... Steve Earle
Funky Broadway.... Dyke and the Blazers
Sunset People... Donna Summer
Portobello Road...Cat Stevens
Ventura Highway... America
Route 66... There's a lot of different versions that I like by Chuck Berry, The Andrews Sisters, Nat King Cole.

A Bomb in Wardour Street - The Jam
Virginia Avenue - Tom Waits
When the Shit Hits the Fan/Sunset Blvd. - Todd Rundgren

Some clearly fictional, but named streets:
Respectable Street - XTC
Rocking Horse Road - Elvis Costello
Fascination Street - The Cure
Love Street - The Doors
Dirty Blvd - Lou Reed (one of the greatest NYC songs, full stop)

And also by Bruce Springsteen Incident on 57th Street or whatever it's called. And 52nd Street by Billy Joel. I forgot those NY ones.
I love Gibsom Street. That might be my favorite one on my list.

If you like Laura Nyro, this album is a fabulous tribute and re-imagining of her material

Thanks. I've been wanting to listen to this since it came out a few years ago but I never did yet.

I'll round this out. I figure not to just include songs with the word "street" but an actual street name along with it. There are a lot of hip hop songs that are just about the "streets".

The Clientele- Winter on Victoria Street
Ariel Pink- Exile on Frog Street
Cleaners From Venus- A Street Called Prospect
T. Rex- The Street & Babe Shadow
Nick Cave- Jubilee Street
Everything But The Girl- Oxford Street
Strawberry Switchblade- 10 James Orr Street
East River Pipe- Down 42nd To The Light
The Walkmen- 138th Street
Fiery Furnaces- Straight Street
Engineers- Peter Street
I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness- 69th Street Bridge

Bibio- Ambivalence Avenue
Jets to Brazil- Sweet Avenue

Durutti Column- Paradise Passage Road
The Mountain Goats- Southwood Plantation Road

I prefer songs by The Streets to songs about them, in general.

Penny Lane must surely be the winner. Jubilee street is really good too. Also 59th Street bridge song, Cypress Avenue and Baker Street must be up there.

Maybe Autumn Almanac counts, but it's not about a named street. Blue Jeans by Blur is worth considering as it mentions Portobello Road (I've not heard the Cat Stevens song)

I don't think a street gets mentioned in Positively 4th Street except the title d'oh!
