Earworms

Be My Thrill by The Weepies

Ok. The album cover sucks. Their name may suck even more. BUT, this is some of the best indie folk pop from 2010 or any year. Charming, endearing, & heartwarming. The kind of songs that worm their way in through your ear to your heart. Instantly hummable & hugable.

FANTASTIC Indie folk.

Gowi, I highly expect that you'll like this.

This put a smile on my face. I'm glad someone liked it. Even if you're the only one, that's enough. Their other albums are good too. You should check them out.

Three pretty great post-hardcore albums were nominated for the 2010 tourney. Women's Public Strain is (by far) the most popular. Eddy Current Suppression Ring has the most kiwi rock influences (which I love). And Tera Melos' Patagonia Rats is the most likely to give Fishman a hard-on. What's your favorite?

Public Strain by Women

vs.

Rush To Relax by Eddy Current Suppression Ring

vs.

Patagonian Rats by Tera Melos

Women was an interesting listen from the perspective of a Preoccupations fan who hadn't heard them before but I much prefer Preoccupations.
Eddy Current suppression Ring is an influential band who I have listened to a lot and being one of my nominations is obviously my favourite of these three. It's a great, fun album with a positive vibe. For those that don't know Mikey Young, the guitarist from Eddy Current, went on to form Total Control and also has done mixing and/or mastering for many other artists including Deaf Wish, King Gizzard, Omni, Goon Sax, Mark Lanegan, Royal Headache etc.
However I just listened to Tera Melos and it was great. It's just my initial reaction from one listen but I really enjoyed it, and I'm guessing if I had of listened to this a lot it would be one of my favourites of the year. For now though it has overtaken Ariel Pink as the best new listen so far from this project.

Majesty Shredding by Superchunk

this was superchunk's comeback in 2010 after a decade of doing fuckall. the result is a surprisingly great alternative rock record full of "chapel hill-isms".

Crying or Very sad (I nominated Ariel Pink & think it's brilliant, but honestly that Tera Melos album kicks serious ass too.)

Had no idea ECSR were such a seminal band. I love it more & more & currently have it in my car deck which is typically where I fall in love with new stuff.

Totally agree. while I like their 2018 album - What A Time To Be Alive- even more Majesty Shredding was a pretty great return to form. Have u listened to I Hate Music? I'm going to have to check that out next.

I Hate Music is a solid record, but I feel its a step below Majesty Shredding. Just a step. I enjoy it a lot, but then again there isn't a Superchunk record I dislike. Common consensus seems to think I Hate Music is their weakest record and I'd be hard pressed to contest that.
