A primarily black artform, co-opted by a shock tactics merchant who stripped away all subtlety in order to appeal to the TRL and nu-metal crowd(s), who was then frequently talked about as the best rapper of all-time, is the definition of white privilege. He's clearly talented, but he's also essentially just Masta Ace with added pop culture references and fart jokes.

I'm sure the fact he's white has helped him shift more units, no doubt. But I guess some spotty white teenagers have at times loved their hip hop unsubtle and shocking. There's definitely a demographic of whites who specifically loved hip hop because of this. Even before Eminem. Eminem was just continuing the path set by people like 2live crew and his pals like NWA. Those acts saw the money to be made in releasing ever more shocking stuff. Eminem just took that and put his own take on it. Never been a fan of his music but I think he is a great rapper. Not top ten or even twenty. Never saw much in him being compared to Masta Ace, mostly it's because he was a big influence.

His entire flow was just lifted from Masta Ace, especially the first couple of albums. The rhyme patterns are often identical.

Big fan of slaughtahouse isn't he. Picked that up on cd for a quid the other week. Will have to have another listen to that. Great record anyway. Also, I should listen to a full Eminem album, though I've never been that inclined.
