@ Chief... another time; another place... geez.

Also cool year break downs peeps. I guess I'll do a crappy logic on my rundown based on my dated 2010s chart and probably don't even agree with it now:

2010 - 22 albums
2011 - 17 albums
2014 - 17 albums
2013 - 13 albums
2012 - 12 albums
2017 - 10 albums
2016 - 7 albums
2015 - 2 albums

Still would love to see some more 2018 playlists if anyone has their tops songs from the year cause that might be a nice break for me to get into a year I totally didn't even realize I was alive in.

Have a look in the 2018 albums sticky thread: I started to post my overview of 2018 there Seth.
But anyway: I really advice you to listen to the 2018 albums of Marianne Faithfull, Paul Weller and Grant Lee Philips: these are the best albums they have ever made in my opinion.

To me it was mainly the 2000's which were bad and the first part of the 2010s (with the exception of 2011) didn't promise to be any better in my opinion because artists and the music industry didn't know how to cope with the whole streaming thing.
But then things started to turn and every year since 2016 seems to get better with especially in 2018 masses of new albums for every taste seem to be released both by younger artists as by older artists (who seem to be wanting to supplement their renewed touring with some new music).

The best way to rank the years seems to be the number of albums from that year in my current overall top 100 of the decade and this is the result in increasing order:
2010: a mere 3 albums
2014: 5 albums
2013: 6 albums
2012: 8 albums
2015: 9 albums
2016: 11 albums
2011: 12 albums
2017: 17 albums
2018: a whopping 29 albums

Here's my 80 albums of 2018 that I think are all great (though I've left off things like the Tyshawn Sorey album because I need to spend more time with it or hip hop because you should be hearing about that from someone who knows what they're talking about)

Thanks, SD, did manage to put a few of these on and heard some already, all quite scrumptious even if I don't quite share your enthuasiasm (then again I'm pretty drunk and stupid most of the time so fuck what I know).

Again my opinion on 2018 hasn't really changed, I think it was definitely an interesting year where you can see a lot of potentially exciting new paths for certain musicians & movements, but not a whole lot of fully realized ya know "masterstrokes" and even the best releases left something to be desired... but I think that's not really a bad thing afterall.

oh yeah I think that's totally fair, like I definitely have a very particular connection with Aviary, like I blasted off 2k words about it in my top 10 thread but barely even got into it really. And then with Everyone Needs A Plan, that's an experimental album about long distance relationships that happened to come at the exact moment that I made plans with someone I've been in a long running long distance relationship with to make it into a short distance relationship. So I had a stars align kind of year playing a big role in my response. But I'd agree that even a year without those kind of major landmarks can still be very good, all those different paths can still be very enriching for your musical landscape and set things up nicely for a landmark in the future.

My list has been revised for albums that I needed to go back to. Saving the last spot for Julia Holter, for when I can properly listen to the album.

Check out some of the recently added ones.

I especially think this one could be on a couple more charts.
