Marvelous contemporary jazz composer/trumpeter has just released yet another delightful disc, Infinity. I was a little worried as his ensemble for this one omits a pianist. But then there was really no need to worry as Harrell always knows exactly what he's doing and results are ensured.

Some more recent recs:

Sult by Maja S. K. Ratkje

Classical-trained Norwegian vocalist with a decade's worth of orchestral and chamber works, released a somewhat more cohesive album format release. Focuses on the captivating abilities of an accordion and how it can be altered. It's cool stuff. I'll go with calling it avant-folk for the sake of it.

The Haze Of Sleeplessness by Ståle Storløkken

Hubro's always reliable for some forward-thinking ambient. Cause Norway isn't have a good enough year apparently.

Doko Mien by Ibibio Sound Machine

Ibibio's latest is landing under the radar, but it stacks up to their previous material.

Them Spirits by AKUA

Canadian Solange-protege who may have dropped an EP better than Solange's latest. Great vibes.

Is An Island by MaHaWaM

Funky, sharp, bombastic debut hip-hop EP repping Oakland. Fear it's going to be overlooked.

March was a pretty solid month for new music, after the year kinda started slow. I really dug the new albums by Nilüfer Yanya, Andrew Bird, The Comet Is Coming, Beth Gibbons, Hand Habits, Helado Negro, Quelle Chris, Stella Donnelly, These New Puritans, Stephen Malkmus and American Football.

Serenitatem by Visible Cloaks, Yoshio O...ki Shibano

Worth checking out if you like Visible Cloaks and the resurgent interest in Japanese electronic ambient/environmental/new age music from the 80s and early 90s that VC have helped to promote.

It's definitely cohesive, after all Visible Cloaks seem to have been heavily influenced by Ojima (especially his HandsSome record). While their individual works are probably stronger than this collaboration, it's still a nice introduction to the various artists involved, and pretty decent too.

Man, this guy is mad consistent. I never give his records the time they deserve, but they are always excellent.
