New Chance The Rapper's out. Tracklist looks like a brick (some 80-or-so minutes).

Not sure if you've given it a spin yet, I'm only about halfway through myself, but it's... awkwardly uninspired. Can't believe he went from Acid Rap to this. It sounds like he's struggling to go over half the tracks, which are either all this vanilla-gospel-pop smush or absolute dreck. I don't even think beginning-mixtape-know-nothing-about-hip-hop rappers would use the nothing beat for Hot Shower, let alone release it without being embarrassed. Ballin Flossin is absolute cheap garbage. And so far his lyrics have ranged from being about nothing at all (or 'love' or whatever) to Chance rambling about his corny 'we made it' success. (And the skits????... and out of place screams???)

I don't get what happened. And it's not that it's overstuffed, cause I can't even seem to carve an EP out of this. For an 'album' it's his closest thing to a mixtape yet.

Haven't felt this way since Arcade Fire dropped Reflekor Everything Now, which still wasn't as steep of a quality drop.

EDIT: Looking at the credits, and some tracks are clocking 10 producers apiece (doing what????)

Lol at this Chance The Rapper...how is this even the same guy who made Acid Rap? This shit is way too clean, directionless, boring, and honestly just lame. At least Coloring Book had Kanye all over it. I used to think Kanye was the reason Chance went from being a pioneer of psychedelic hip-hop to maintream party rap.... but after this, I dont know what to think. The songwriting is bad, the production is boring, his rapping is awkward (and not in the entertaining ways of Acid Rap and 10 Day) and just plain bad, and the aesthetic is just lame and corny. He's not even the best Bennet on the album.

PG-13 youth group rap.

I think this is probably the last straw for most of his OG fans pre-Coloring Book, myself included. Chance is washed.

I like all three of his mixtapes, but consider Coloring Book his masterpiece. Very overhated among "serious" music fans.

But I haven't liked the singles he's released since, and probably won't check this out, because it sounds awful. Hope he gets it back together at some point.

The title track, Hot Shower, Ballin Flossin, and the 8 minutes of skits are all bangers, so I'd rec you check those out.
