Hip-Hop: Benny The Butcher, Jim Jones, Maxo
House: Moodymann
Techno: Natriums

My 2019 chart has all the current gas on it though. not sure what you define as "usual suspects".

Honestly this year is coming together really nice. Already 25 albums I've given a 8/10 or higher.

Electro Acholi Kaboom From Northern Uga...us Artists

Not out yet, but Nyege Nyege Tapes have a comp project out in September. I've added it to the site prematurely, but I hope it goes in a lot of people's queues.

Also, if you liked her track Pocky from our 2018 tracks tournament, Yeule's 'debut' is out in October:

Serotonin II by Yeule

So, both of those to look forward to.

My favs of August so far:

Perfumed Earth by Purple Pilgrims

Dreamy-spooky pop. Could be up a few people's alleys.

Spaza by Spaza

Really loose afrobeat-inspired improvisational jazz collective from SA. Doesn't always hit the mark, but most of it comes pretty close. Worth a spin.

Jambú E Os Míticos Sons Da Amazônia ...us Artists

Fantastic comp of 70's Amazonia bands. Haven't heard a single track on this before, and they're all pretty solid. Can't see many members disliking this.

Wahala by Yatta

Not your grandma's average experimental word music.

기생충 [Parasite] by Jung Jaeil

Fantastic score to a fantastic film. Hoping everyone gets to watch it. Easy #1 of the year for me so far. In the last few years I've found South Korean scores really upping their game... there's been some great compositions.

EDIT:

Not particularly a '2019' release, but a reissue of an unreleased album:

Al Hadaoui by Attarazat Addahabia & Faradjallah

Really accessible family-made berber music. There's a story about the album's uncovery on the Bandcamp page for it that's worth a read while giving it a spin.

Thanks Hayden. So many good album covers. I've just dded a bunch to my queue.

Anyone into afro-funk should check this one out...

Missing Chapters by Moken

I raved about Moken's debut a few years ago. His 2nd album utilizes his same otherworldly voice but it's far more realized musically. I can't imagine you've heard anything quite like this all year. Kind of makes me think of classic Van Morrison if he was a Cameroonian raised on Manu Dibango and Francis Bebey.

Surprised no one's posted this in the 2019 thread yet:

Pony by Orville Peck

Alt-country with plenty of camp, as the cover suggests

Nobody gives a shit about that new Thugger around here eh? It's one of his best albums for sure even if a bit bloated. Worth a listen if you're into that shit

I'm definitely going to listen. Just have a big 2019 backlog to get through.

What a great new album by New Model Army.

From Here by New Model Army
It's a fairly dark album (it has been recorded on a Norwegian island near the arctic circle) but yet very rocking album and currently I have The Weather as my favorite but I have the impression this will be a grower and many more tracks will show their sheer beauty.

I must admit, I have never been very into NMA before so I really should find out about their other albums.
