Some recent rap recs:

9lokkNine - Mind of Destruction

Floridian post-Kodak lyrical street shit. Good.

JayDaYoungan - Misunderstood

Louisianian Melly-meets-Boosie melodic shit. Good.

Rod Wave - Ghetto Gospel

Floridian post-Gates guttural sing-rap shit. Good.

ALLBLACK & Offset Jim - 22nd Ways

Oakland straight-talking relentless post-hyphy pimp shit. Good.

Skengdo & AM - Back Like We Never Left

London clean-lines heartless drill shit. Good.

Check them out.

There's a new Bonnie "Prince" Billy if anybody's still interested. It's called I Made a Place and I haven't listened to it yet.

Thanks again for all the cool recs.

After admittedly not a very careful listen, I am pretty disappointed. I'm a big fan of some of his earlier stuff, but I just wish he takes a bit more time when releasing all those new albums, cause they're always a step (or several) from being really good. One of the musicians that should think more about quality than quantity imho.

First new material since 2013 though (all of his releases in between were collabs or rehashes of older tracks or covers). Haven't listened yet, tomorrow though, will come back.

Was listening to some older Little Brother stuff earlier today, and I seem to remember you pointing to a new LP recently, any good?

I know this was to Skinny, but I thought it was quite good, albeit not up to the level of The Minstrel Show. The beats were great throughout, and the rapping was often great but occasionally corny, such as one song where they rap about Instagram and getting too old for the club.

I haven't heard much Melnyk but I think what Svirsky does on this record playing two pianos at the same time to create a sort of manual flexible delay, repeating something from one hand quickly with another in a way that couldn't be done with one piano because the hands would get in the way of each other, and get extremely flexible with the passage of time is really incredible stuff. This one is one of my top picks for sure!

Yeah I guess I wasn't looking at it that way. All those older songs had to be refined and recorded too, so I guess it still takes a lot of time. Anyways after second listen I like it more, but still not totally convinced

Legacy Of The Dark Lands by Blind Guardian

for a non-metal, orchestral release this is pretty solid but for some mileage may vary

I liked it a lot. Some of the song themes were potentially a little strict and laboured, but it's a minor quibble. Good stuff. Worth checking out for sure, Norman. That said, it's not quite as brilliant as last year's solo Phonte record.
