I used to agree with the sentiments here that it's easily one of their best albums, studio or not. I just cycled through this on my records and while great, it didn't have the charm it once did and was totally more blown away by their studio albums. I wonder if it's the bit I read about Dave Grohl's drumming... idk.
I will agree that it's the covers that make this album. The other thing is that the All Apologies is possibly better. Other than that I prefer the studio versions of these Nirvana songs.
It's not that the renditions are better than their studio counterparts, it's just that the selection of tracks is superb, and this record is not plagued by at least 3-4 average boringish tracks like every Nirvana studio album.
Kinda kidding. But fair enough. Again, don't get me wrong, I think it's a great album. Just my taste ebbing and I suppose for the first time I really don't care for any of the Nirvana tracks other than All Apologies. I dig the studio versions way more. But the covers are easily some of the best work Nirvana released for sure. Way better than the Teal album... hehe.
This is one of my favorites. All of the covers are fantastic and I really like the songs they chose to perform. Where did you sleep last night never fails to give me chills, and if you watch the live performance it looks like Kurt is literally possessed. Such a good album
