One of my wife's favorites. At one time I could tolerate The Boxer, but not much more and now even that's gonna' result in a quick skip. Cecilia was intolerable from the get-go and El Condor Pasa has a very short shelf life.

Now Disturbed significantly upgraded the title cut.

One of my favorite albums of all time. Every track, except maybe Why Don't You Write Me, is phenomenal. A pinnacle of folk rock, and music in general.

1. Bridge Over Troubled Water - 10/10

Outstanding opener. A song about friendship and hope in rough times. The music is subtle but effective. However Art Garfunkel undoubtedly carried this song with perhaps his best vocal performance in the duo's history.

2. El Condor Pasa (If I Could) - 9/10

I hear the beginnings of Simon's solo career with this song as he branched out into other sounds and cultures and infused them into his own music, something he would frequently in his solo career. This was actually a cover, but nevertheless a great listen.

3. Cecilia - 9/10

Simple, catchy. After the first two tracks, #3 was a good place on the album to drop a pleasant straightforward single. And a pretty good one to boot.

4. Keep the Customer Satisfied - 7/10

Keeps the catchy momentum going, but not as good as Cecilia.

5. So Long Frank Lloyd Wright - 5/10

Supposedly this song was Paul Simon saying goodbye to Art Garfunkel as the duo was ending. But Art was the one who sang it. So did Paul write this farewell poem, then force Art to sing it? That would be interesting and darkly humorous. But anyway, this song is kinda bland and stopped the album's momentum.

6. The Boxer - 10/10

The Boxer reclaimed that momentum right away. That instrumental segue from the 1:40 mark to 2:10 is so good, it's chilling. Does anyone know what instrument is used there? The boxer in the song is a metaphor for everyone with a fighter spirit who sets out to achieve something, and fully or partially fails and settles for something less. "But the fighter still remains..." Truly magnificent.

7. Baby Driver - 6/10

After the beautiful downer of The Boxer, I guess it's appropriate to put something lighter here. It's a fun listen but nothing special. However I really liked the Edgar Wright movie and the use of this song in it.

8. The Only Living Boy in New York - 8/10

Similar to So Long Frank Lloyd Wright, this song was also referencing the duo's impending breakup. However this was rather blatant - "I know your part'll go fine. Fly Down to Mexico." Well Art was in Mexico to star in a movie during the writing of this album, so yeah not subtle at all. Anyway, great song.

9. Why Don't You Write Me - 7/10

"Why don't you write me? I'm out in the jungle. I'm hungry to hear you." To me, this opening line is clearly about a soldier in Vietnam who isn't receiving letters from his girl. That's fucked up. And it's ironic because it's in total contrast to the very upbeat music. Paul Simon didn't seem to put much work into this song and I get why it's the lowest rated track on the album. But I like the song a little more than the average fan.

10. Bye Bye Love - 6/10

A live cover song. Was it live, or was the audience clapping and cheering recorded in studio? It doesn't matter. The song's okay. Good enough not to skip, but it's time for the album to come to a more satisfying close.

11. Song for the Asking - 7/10

It's satisfying I guess. For a closer track that's less than two minutes, it's pretty forgettable. But it's not bad.

Overall 9/10

There's some filler, but at the same time some of the duo's greatest work. And it def trailed off at the end. Nevertheless Bridge Over Troubled Water is among my favorites.

I love this record. My grandpa wanted me to learn to play the title track, but I never got a chance to while he was alive. It's a bit too much for me. But the rest of it is great.

Track pciks
1. Bridge Over Troubled Water
2. El Condor Pasa (If I Could)
3. Cecilia
6. The Boxer

One of my all time faves.
I was brought up with this album. It reminds me of being very small and very happy.

Me too. I had one of those childhood crushes on a girl named Cecilia and my family would sing that song to me. I didn't understand the lyrics at the time, and now I'm a bit surprised they did that. (well they would just sing the chorus, but the overall song's lyrics isn't for a 5 year old).

Did Disturbed cover Bridge Over Troubled Water? I thought they just did Sound of Silence

It was Sound Of Silence. Which has become the cool thing to do...record a deep and moving dark version and get a zillion youtube hits from people sharing it all over social media telling all of their friends how deep and moving it is. One of the recent fads I can definitely live without.

I hope they will leave the track from this album well enough alone.
