Cool that all these people were able to be accurately diagnosed posthumously. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

All?
I think the RIP thread is going to grow suddenly. I had no idea about Dylan, Love, Eminem, Taylor, KiD CuDi, Hopspin, Byrne, Sumner!!! All lost??? Wha... were they all on the same plane that crashed?

Especially considering Asperger's was eliminated as a separate diagnosis in the DSM-5. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Goethe called his muse a demon. Genius in the natural sense.
To say the artist isn't a tortured soul... blah blah blah.

The DSM applies to the US. Apparently internationally there is still lots of debate about whether to adopt the same merger with autism. _________________ Add me on RYM

Can you produce any evidence from a reputable source about these musicians having this diagnosis? Second-hand speculation doesn't count. The only famous musician I am aware of with the diagnosis is Susan Boyle.
Also what is your point in making this thread? _________________ Add me on RYM

I'm one for them being separate diagnoses. In education, if I have 5 students in a class whose IEPs just say "autism", then what am I supposed to understand from that? The range of "the spectrum" is so broad that it makes it more difficult to understand what the particular issue may be and what could be done to assist the student. Someone low on the spectrum is likely to have another kind of learning disability, and a child on the higher end of the spectrum (which means they may have the social issues associated with Aspergers) likely is average or above average intellectually.
Also, I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no way in hell that Abraham Lincoln had Aspergers. He was a fantastic orator, debater, and story-teller.
Quick internet search came up with this.

It seems like the lack of detail in IEPs is a separate problem that needs to be addressed, and one that having two diagnoses instead of one would only partially and clumsily patch. If Asperger's is simply a portion of the autism spectrum (and I don't know enough to argue a side), I don't see a good reason for separating it. _________________ Add me on RYM
