Pitchfork hated it- but you kind of have to wonder if they deliberately gave the album to someone who can't stand prog as it's a weird old review. I can see why some people find Pitchfork annoying now.

Not heard the album. Any good?

Well, I think it's excellent (this certainly wouldn't be the first time Pitchfork was dead wrong). The composition and musicianship are stellar. It does have plenty of that Tool-esque edginess bordering on creepyness. Like any Tool, it ain't for the masses, but it does deserve its following and its many accolades.

In terms of a complete album, very few play as well as Lateralus. A fucking masterpiece from a band realizing the potential of their prime.
