Going over your top 100 for example, what albums outside BEA top 1000 (preferably largely outside) you think has the objective qualities to reach a wider consensus and be inside the top 1000 ?

Here's my selection (all American, I realize!) with current rank :

H2O by Daryl Hall & John Oates (4 206)

Can't Slow Down by Lionel Richie (4 053)

Christopher Cross by Christopher Cross (6 431)

Frosting On The Beater by The Posies (3 617)

Give Me The Night by George Benson (12 598)

What We Did On Our Holidays by Fairport Convention (3302)

This isn’t ranked super low, but it’s still disappointing how low this album is ranked given the quality of some of the tracks. “Fotheringay”, “Book Song”, “Eastern Rain”, and “She Moves Through The Fair” are all masterpieces.

Drums Of Passion by Olatunji (8933)

Drums Of Passion is a stunning work of art. Beautiful, energetic, uplifting, it has it all - unless you’re someone who only listens to sad music.

Sings by Patty Waters (10293)

I think this should be in the top 1000 based solely on the strength of “Black Is The Color Of My True Love’s Hair”. The rest of the album being good is just a bonus.

So this batch of mostly soft, cheesy 80s albums that time forgot is primed for a critical reassessment that rockets them to the top 1000? I won't hold my breath.

Here's one from your top 100 that is more likely than any from that list:

I have a handful of issues with our top 1,000... especially the bottom rock-filled half of benign whatever... but it's kinda unacceptable that our top 1000 has nothing from:

Fela Kuti (????)
Max Roach
Mum
Sun Ra
Nina Simone (???????... albeit barely)
Ali Farka Touré
Pharcyde
Hank Mobley
The Books
Duke Ellington
Ennio Morricone
And anything from Norway, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Poland (not even top 2,000????), Russia (4,000????), or India (which has a mere single album in our top 10,000....)

Arthur Russell's Another Thought not cracking our top 5,000 would be an added personal disappointment. It could be in our top 500 with ease.

I'd love BEA to go on an anything-but-rock binge for a while. Not only do we need it, we got publicly outed for it once Laughing

I only count 15 jazz artists who're in the top 1000. Other absent jazz artists include:

Horace Silver
Charlie Parker
Weather Report and Wayne Shorter
Ben Webster
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Albert Ayler
Lee Morgan
Ella Fitzgerald
Sarah Vaughan
Count Basie
Wes Montgomery
acoustic Herbie Hancock
Bill Evans
Louis Armstrong
Freddie Hubbard

Love It To Death by Alice Cooper

IMO one of the best garage rock albums.

Quite simply...not enough people care to listen to all of this stuff...especially given that even if they do find themselves discovering music here that much of it isn't even on a single chart.

Isn't the purpose of BEA that everyone gets their own opinion about what is best? That's the purpose of having your own charts. As for an "anything but rock binge"...I would never be in support of that. Simply because I will not be told what music to listen to or not listen to. Ever.

Some examples:
Craig David - Born To Do It
Black Star - Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead - Source Tags & Codes
U2 - Pop (way too overslept on)
2Pac - Me Against The World
Terence Trent D'Arby - Introducing The Hardline According To Terence Trent D'Arby

No one is telling you what to listen to... I believe Hayden is hoping any genre but rock will increase in popularity.

@Hayden Are you referring to that article critiquing BEA? Ousted would imply some purge of users, and if that happened it was before my time.

The closest artists on my chart are Tim Hecker, Manuel Gottsching, The KLF, and Oneohtrix Point Never, which I think would all have a chance to make the top 1000 with a few more listens from people.
