Whilst this chart does contain a lot of interesting modern selections – Sylvan Esso is one quite recent album that I feel is already “underappreciated” and I do want to explore Jenny Hval more than I have – the chart does become rather predictable when one looks at the earlier selections.

Actually, being from Australia I can appreciate why the author entirely overlooks under-the-radar albums from before the twenty-first century. In the cloistered environment of my childhood in Melbourne’s fringe suburb of Keilor Downs, it was simply not possible to hear any non-commercial music on radio or television or in record stores. Whereas I have spent the past two decades looking for under-the-radar music from my childhood or before, the list reflects a person absorbing a wide range of modern music and a limited range of older “classics”.

Still, this chart does have some quite interesting moments as noted above.
