Anyone else watch the first debate tonight? What did you think? Are you going to watch round two tomorrow?

I'm probably going to dig a hole and pop back out around January 21, 2021 to see whatever carnage has occurred. Party Party Party Party Party

Si, yo vi los debates. A friend hosted a debate night dinner party. I went for the food to be honest. However it was nice to hear political discourse about policy instead of Trump-bashing for a change.

LMAO the spanish speaking was a lot, everyone was trying so hard to flex.

but yes i watched! to me there werent any clear winners, altho the loser was certainly tim ryan LOL what a doofus. major jeb bush vibes from that guy. bill de blasio needed to chill out too, honestly the lesser known dudes were all so annoying trying to out-shout each other.

definitely felt like the panel liked cory booker the best of this line-up, right? like he easily got the most questions.

Tonight's debate was less fun for me than last night's. Less actual exchange of ideas, much messier and usually in more of a cringeworthy way than a captivating way. That exchange where Harris demolished Biden was riveting though.

So two more debates are in the books. What did folks think about these?

I did not see them this time. Very busy here the past couple weeks. I watched the highlights, and it seemed the 2nd round of debates were more successful in demonstrating differences among the candidates. I watched the first round and it felt like all 20 candidates were more or less the same, and there were few confrontations. Just from the highlights I saw, this round had more shots fired, which made for better reality TV.

Going forward, I know the poll and donor requirements are increasing so there definitely won't be 20 candidates in the 3rd round. There may not even be 10. There are a couple candidates who currently don't make the cut, whom I'd like to hear more from, but alas...

In terms of candidates who almost certainly won't make it to the next round, Inslee has compelling ideas and rightly emphasizes the climate crisis - it's a shame he's not a more dynamic speaker. But for the most part, I will be happy to leave the unwieldy 20 candidate format behind.

Three hours was... too long.

For me the highlight/lowlight was when Joe Biden said social workers need to teach poor people how to parent, including skills such as making sure their record players are on at night Shocked

Yes, that really happened.

He nearly referred to it as a "phonograph" lol

I'm trying to not follow this election if I can help it, as there's only so much fun I can expect from watching nineteen people I loathe and one I "kind of" like trip over one another for multiple hours.
